I have read quite a bit on this site about how British Gas are very competitive for electricity. As I am with British Gas for my gas supply, thought it might be worth changing over the electricity to them as well.

Having just looked at the prices quoted on their site, this is definitely not the case. I received an up to date price list from my current electricity supplier SWEB last week and their charges are:

13.85 (14.54 inc VAT) for the first 225 Kw
9.41 (9.88 inc VAT) thereafter

The British Gas chargse quoted are:

16.581 (17.410 inc VAT)
9.576 (10.055 inc VAT)

As you can see, British Gas are more expensive.

Is it really worth changing? They all seem to put the prices up in the end.
Stopped smoking 27/12/2007, but could start again at any time

If you look at the BG tariff fixed to 30th April 2009 you will see that the price for SWEB is 16.801 & 9.703 (including VAT) On top of that you will get their dual fuel and paperless discounts.

I don't think that 'competitive' means the absolute cheapest, but for electricity BG are not far from the lowest in many areas.
