First of all - what exactly have you received? Is it a Fixed Penalty Notice (from the police), a Penalty Charge Notice (from the local authority) or some kind of invoice from a private company?

If it's from the police, the usual advice is to pay it.

If it's from the local authority, go to the parking forum, and do as the sticky says and show us the whole of the ticket.

If it's from a private company, ignore it and await more threatening letters, which you can also ignore. In the meantime, tell us which company it's from.

Right, you cannot ignore it then.

I suggest you repost in the parking forum (within motoring), after reading the sticky on the front page of the forum.

    http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showthread.html?t=1363571

You will need to post photos of ALL of the ticket (front and back), together with photos of any signs and bay markings.

Once you have done this, someone can advise you properly.

I know you say you parked your bike where you normally do, but out of interest, where exactly was it parked? (Pavement/road/car park etc)
If it looks like a duck, and quacks like a duck, we have at least to consider the possibility that we have a small aquatic bird of the family anatidae on our hands

Parking illegally Because other people park there is not a reasonable excuse.

You should know the highway code and be able to read (and understand) the posted signs wether they be posts or road markings.

Only if they are correct. If they are incorrect (ie wrongly worded or ambiguous), then they are not enforceable.

The OP needs to do what the sticky says, and someone can advise him properly.

At Kings Cross (or they use to) they had a huge red bike lock which they use to put on bikes which were left in places they shouldn't. Bike owner then had to go begging to staff to release the bike who gave them a long lecture on leaving bikes and security risks. I am sure thats more effective than fines.
I doubt there are many people who genuinely don't know they shouldn't leave a bike somewhere. To say there is no sign and so you shouldn't be punished is pony.

The point is that the OP is saying that there were no notices, saying they can not park there ....

Now it could be that they parked on the pavement or double yellow lines ... etc ... etc ... you don't know that they parked illegally?

Given the very minimal information provided by the OP, it's impossible to know whether the OP committed any offences or not.
