well looks like i wont be able to ever get an account then, cause lloyds tsb are refusing to remove this marker, as they said the marker is there to protect both me and them.
Taken from Credit Expert siteCIFAS information is displayed by address and so the information may not be in your name. CIFAS aims to detect and prevent fraud and so protect innocent people whose names, addresses or other details are used fraudulently by others in order to get credit. Organisations who are members of CIFAS examine credit applications very carefully and may contact you to make sure you have applied for the credit. They will not automatically refuse applications from people with warnings on their report. If the CIFAS entry is recorded in your own name and you require further information you should contact the company directly at the address provided on the entry.Awaiting Inspiration......................0 -

Have you made a formal complaint to LTSB?
Oh, and you might want to remove the case reference number from your earlier post.0 -

I've been declined for credit, insurance or another product or service - could it be a CIFAS warning that caused this?
There are many reasons why your application for financial or related services may be rejected. It might, for instance, be because of something on your credit file.
A CIFAS warning does not mean that an individual has been blacklisted. It means that extra precautions should be taken to ensure that the application for an account, product, facility, insurance policy or employment that has prompted the check of the address is genuine, protecting the individual from further fraud.
CIFAS information cannot be viewed by everyone, only by CIFAS Members. Any application or account where a CIFAS warning is recorded for a person to review and investigate. CIFAS Members are aware of the correct procedures to follow.
CIFAS information is not permitted to be included in any credit scoring systems. In the event that your application is rejected, you do have the right to ask organisations to review your application manually and, if their decision remains unchanged, they should be able to indicate to you their reason(s) why.
So according to their website, this information cannot be used for credit scoring, so why i am still be refused accounts, specifically a basic bank accountAwaiting Inspiration......................0 -
Hi All,
Hope someone can assist me in my problem..............
I been trying to open a basic banks account and have tried the following accounts.
Co-Op Cash Minder
HSBC
Lloyds
Barclays
Natwest
and a few others
All these Banks have refused to open me an account (even though i am only applying for a basic account).
I have two defaulted accounts on my report one that is satisfied and one that has just been paid off but awaiting updating on my report.
I have two open Credit Accounts, both arfe satisfactory in status showing that all payments have been made on time, and no payments missed.
I have one CCJ which i am currently applying to have set aside.
I was made bankrupt in march 2003, and that was discharged in April 2005.
Yet i am getting refused from all, the only one that has given me a reason is Natwest, who states that i have bankrupcy details against me, and if i send my letter of discharge in then will be willing to open the account, I sent this letter to them, and they have still refused to open an account.
I am in full time employment, and have been for 3 years, and also listed on the electoral register, so what more can i do................
I am desperate for this account, as i can no longer be paid in cash for work, and also need to pay direct maintenance to a partner, but advised by CSA to make sure this is by standing order, in case she goes to them and tells them that i have forfieted on our voluntary agreement.
HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Hi SmudeUK
You seem to be in a bit of a pickle, me thinks.
Are you sure that these banks are not trying to open full banking facilities for you? It seems rather odd that you cannot even obtain simple banking facilities, such as an Electron or Solo Card, which makes me wonder whether the banks are either trying their luck with you to boost their profit sales targets, or you are merely plain unlucky.
You didn't mention Halifax, all though you said a few more, so you could have tried them, but they do a basic account that gives you an Electron Card, and used to give you a cheque book, but I think that may have stopped now, I would be most surprised if they declined your request for banking services, especially when I read on here that people who claim to have numerous adverse credit, are being upgraded willy-nilly on this and that, and have numerous cards to their names (unless of course they are lying), then you should at least be given the option to be able to have access to funds via a debit card, and set up simple standing orders.
You didn't state when the CCJ was registered, but that should not deter you from having a basic bank account, as for the bankrupt entry, I am unsure how long that counts from the time you are discharged, so it would be wrong for me to say, well it has been so long now, so it should not matter, on that I can offer no advice, but 4 years discharged is a long time, so if your other accounts are in order, surely you are trying to make an effort to get back on track, and I am sure nobody enters bankrupcy lightly.
You will get an account, but it is important you stipulate that you just want a basic account, and ensure they don't credit check you, have you tried Nationwide, they offer a cash account, and I feel it would be suited to your needs. I wish you luck and success in your findings.0 -
I have doubled checked that the banks etc are only applying for basic accounts which they say they are!!!!
My bankrupcy no longer shows on my credit report my bankrupcy started in march 2003 and discharged april 2005, and was removed from my credit file on march of this year.......
I have a CCJ which is registered for 996.00 registered in 2005 which i have apllied to have set aside.
I have two defaulted accounts one for 10.00 and the other for 640.00 which were resulted as part of the bankrupcy which are now marked as satisfied and the one for 640.00 pounds is due to be removed in November.
I phoned up the FSA, and was put through to a consumer helpline money clear, clearly money or something like that, and they also reckon it is something to do with the cifas markers.
So have contacted the bank, that placed the marker to ask them why it was placed on, so until then i see no point in going any further with the matter, just means i am going to have to use a cheque cashing company to have my wages cashed.........Awaiting Inspiration......................0 -

Success!!!!!
Well went into Lloyds, to try and sort this whole mess out, and explained the marker, and they looked into it.
And stated that the reason the marker was put there in the first place was cause someone applied for the account at an address that i was now at, but I still had an active current account (Joint) with the ex who i had left over 3 years ago, and she was using the account.
Anyway a quick form, and a trip to the ex to sign to say that she wanted to be the only person on this account, and that part was cleared up.
I then asked for a Basic Account, and went through the details again, and it got referred, the lady who was dealing with me had to make a phone call, and i trhought it be refused again!!!!
The magic words came back that i had been accepted but not for a Basic Account, but for a full Current Account with the Silver Package........
So very happy now that i can pay my wages into my account, have a debit card and even a overdraft..........
My own fault for not really checking details when you split up with someone when you have joint finances...............Awaiting Inspiration......................0 -
Well done Smudge - glad you got it sorted.
I dont necessarily think a CIFAS marker is always the problem - I got a Halifax Easycash account and a Co-Op cashinder with no problem - and I have a CIFAS on my file (from Sygma who put them on for no reason when they decline you ) my application was referred for Co-Op, bizarrely they asked me for three months payslips (think it was something to do with the payrise I had in April or the fact my wages differ every month due to unsociable hours payments) and three months bank statements plus passport and proof of address but it was all fine.
I think it depends on the bank probably.*The RK and FF fan club* #Family*Don’t Be Bitter- Glitter!* #LotsOfLove ‘Darling you’re my blood, you have my heartbeat’ Dad 20.02.200
