pregnancy tests

I have just done a pg test, and it is positive (yay!), but I am wondering a little about how pregnant I can be. My last period was 27/06, which would make me about 3 weeks now (1 week since conception) - but the pregnancy test came up positive so quickly and strongly - before I had even had the stick immersed for the requisite 20 seconds! I was wondering if there is any chance I am a month out? My last period was light and didn't last long, and I have heard that you can have a period early in pregnancy?
Is possible that I am actually 7 weeks (5 since conception) pregnant - and how would I tell?

From the sound of it- Even using an 'early sensitive' pregnancy test, it usually picks it up a few days before your period is due and your case, in the next 3 or 4 days.
For the test line to come so quickly and strong shows you have a good level of HCG and I doubt you would have that a week after conception!!
Btw......CONGRATULATIONS, hopefully I will be sharing your excitement soon! :j0 -
I assume you mean 27/05, or have I completely lost the plot?! (quite likely lol) It is quite common to have light bleeding at the beginning of pregnancy especially when your period is due so you could infact be 7 weeks pregnant. The best thing to do is phone your doctor and see if you need to see a doctor first or if they can book you straight in with a midwife - every surgery seems to have different rules and they can book you in for a dating scan (hopefully) but again, every hospital has different rules.
Either way, congratulations!Slimming World - 3 stone 8 1/2lbs in 7 months and now at target :j0 -
Hi and congratulations :j. There is no way you can tell how far pregnant you are by peeing on the stick unless you waste your money on that new one being advertised on the telly that comes up with a time result along with the positive/negative. I wouldn't waste your money though. Make an appointment with either your GP or your local midwives clinic and they will have a quick feel of your tummy to be able to give you a more accurate guide. Even they can't be 100% though - if you aren't absolutely certain of your dates, the only fool proof way of knowing your due date is by scan.
good luck x0 -
The clearblue with conception indicator is not that accurate, but until you have a scan, it's about the only way you will get an idea. It is possible that you are closer to 7 weeks if your last period was light, but I'd go for the earlier date and then you can get a nice surprise at your scan and skip forward a few weeks (cos that's always nice!).0

Hi op and Congratulations. tia is right the only way to tell properly is a scan. the pregnancy tests with the conception indicator do work but only if you are very early pregnant otherwise they can give a false reading and they only go upto 4wks which in how pregnant terms would make you six weeks gone if you add on the 2wks from the date of your last period they are also very expensive about £12 for 2 so its up to you if you want to give it a try.:jFriends are like fabric you can never have enough:j0

Yes, I did in fact mean 27/5... Will phone doctor in morning for appointment, this is actually my second, so I know I will have to see dr first. Last time I tested really early on, as soon as 1 missed period and the line took ages and was really faint, which was why I was surprised that this was so quick and strong. Not actually missed period yet, it's not due until Wednesday, but I have been feeling "out of sorts" and sicky for the last few days, so I thought I would give it a try :-) We've been trying since January, so was a lovely surprise for OH on Father's Day!
Hopefully I will get to go on maternity leave before I get made redundant - anyone know how far into pregnancy I have to get for this to happen?
Lillmisschick - hope it goes well for you! Bring on the morning sickness - I had it badly last time - at work you have to walk past the coffee machine to get to the toilets, I hate the smell of coffee at the best of times and this just had me running to the loo every morning for about 6 weeks. And lets not mention the job I got sent on to the local waste recycling centre - lost my breakfast in the miscellaneous skip... They must of thought I was mad, as I wasn't showing at the time....

I had a similar experience with my 1st, I thought I'd had a period, then had a positive test a month later, went for a scan at 10 weeks to find out I was 14 weeks! The bleed I'd had was light, but did last a few days.
Good luck for the next 7/8 months!0 -
you can start mat leave 11 weeks before the week you're baby is due so 29 weeks. You might be better off telling work you are pg sooner rather than later - you might be better protected!!
Your MW should ask you if you are sure about your dates and whether your last period was light - they might go with the dates of your light period or the one before. Tia is right though - would be nice to think you were 12 weeks at scan and then find it was actually 16!!
I'm almost 27 weeks and feel like I've been pregnant forever and still have agggggggggggggggggggggggggggges to go!
Good luck and join us on the pregnancy thread! xxA very busy Yummy Mummy to a 1 year old gorgeous boy :smileyhea

Oh, will definitely be telling work sooner rather than later, there are a few H&S issues associated with me being pregnant at work, so I need to get the risk assessment in place ASAP. Although I can always refuse to do work I feel is unsafe anyway, but I will let my immediate line manager know after I've seen doc.
29 weeks? With accrued leave, that ties in nicely with Xmas, I think? Will have to do some calculations..
