Cos the number I'm looking for is not listed on there and I emailed BT and they said that the number was thro another service provider, so I'm guessing they might be with NTL.

Well if the number isn't on there, then it won't be anywhere.

The phone book doesn't just have numbers for BT lines only, the phone book or any directory enquires has numbers no matter who provides the line as long as the person who's number it is is not ex-directory.

Also no need to go around phoning different directory enquiry services as they all use the same database.

If NTL did have an online phone book, it would only list exactly the same details as the BT one.

The printed 'Phone Book' that you receive every so often is printed by BT, but includes phone numbers from BT, Telewest, NTL or whoever, and is delivered to everyone whether you have a BT, Telewest or NTL line.

There are two types of being ex-directory.

    1) Complete ex-directory, not listed in the printed Phone Book and not available via Directory Enquires.

    2) Not printed in the Phone Book, but available via Directory Enquires.
