Competition wins - etiquette with friends?

Just wondering how other people approach this really. I've won a couple of holidays recently - ones that I wouldn't necessarily have bought and paid for myself (Morocco and Canary Islands!), which leads to questions etc :p

I always feel bad telling friends/family about my wins if they're not benefitting (which only my mum has so far!), but I do think "hey everyone could do comps if they were so inclined".

So what do you do? Do you tell people around you about your winning wares?
2008-2011: £23k of wins
2011 best win: my wedding ring :o
2012 best win so far: iPad 2!!!! Holiday to Austria (given to family member) :j also £100 & 2 wine cases
Thank you so much, all posters

It wouldn't worry me personally. You've won fair and square - so why not be proud of the fact. I tell everyone that I do comps. Enjoy your wins.....:D

Most of my friends and family know about my comping, and are positive about it. My colleagues at my last office used to find it quite funny and always sent me to get the lottery tickets when they were doing a syndicate, on the grounds that I'm always winning things! I try and include my friends and family when it's tickets/event type wins, which is maybe why they're happy for me to keep comping!

I tell my family and friends about my wins - some benefitted from a particularly big one last year (multiple items).

This has actually resulted in a few starting comping and winnning - although there is still a few who say "I never win so why should I bother entering!!"

I'd tell them - if they wanted to enter they could! I also end up sharing a lot of my wins (even if they are just small ones) so others benefit too :)

I always say it's a win, but if anyone makes any 'you're so lucky' type comments I always say something jokey about putting the hours in, or almost a full time job!

Well most of my friends know about my comping because a lot of my wins end up as pressies. TBH, I've hardly kept anything for myself.
Thanks to everyone who posts comps, I love winning prizes big and small

I don't see why it's a problem..... why do you think they would have a problem? It's not like you did anything illegal or immoral unless you found a way of cheating!

Not that I've had to worry just yet :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl: but I think I'd just tell them, and not feel guilty. Like you said, if they wanted to enter they could! Everybody has the same chance of being picked as the next person, could easily be them!
Thanks to all who post comps!

You shouldn't feel guilty about your wins but I do understand what you mean. I had a big ITV win and only told a couple of close friends the amount - to anyone else just that I won some vouchers if they ask. Which is true :)

I always tell everyone what I win because I get so excited. My first win was a flat screen tv which i gave to my niece as i didn't need it. I have given some other wins or part of wins away too. I always enter comps that although I might be interested in them there is always someone i know that would like it.
