1899 and BT - both charging me!?!

Hi all. Any ideas on this one? I joined 1899 and started using their service a couple of months ago. The calls using the prefix all seemed to go through ok (message said "zero pence per minute") and I thought no more of it until the bills came in. 1899 charges were as expected BUT BT also charged for the calls (not sure at what rate but they were on there). I rang BT who said it shouldn't have happened and that they'd refund the calls. I was told that I needed to use a different prefix number instead. I got off the 'phone and searched for the prefix number they gave me online - it turned out they'd given me one to ROUTE ALL CALLS THROUGH BT!!! I was fuming! So I rang them back. They said that what I'd been told was a mistake - on both occasions - about the BT prefix and about the refund. They then told me that I wouldn't get the calls refunded after all because it wasn't their fault, it was 1899's fault and they said I should contact them instead as the calls weren't being routed correctly.
I therefore emailed 1899 via their website about it. It is approximately 2 months later and I still haven't heard from them
Anyone got any ideas? It seems that 1899 aren't contactable by 'phone?!
Anyone else had similar problems with these people?

Sign up for a https://www.18185.co.uk account - same firm as 1899 but cheaper for many destinations (and a different prefix of course).Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.0
