Help needed reclaiming on a closed HSBC account

Hi,

I'm new to the forums but have been browsing them for a couple of weeks, I'm in need of advice.

I had my HSBC account closed in 2006 after charges took me past my overdraft limit of £1000 to over 1700. I believe I'm owed in excess of £5000 in charges and was wondering if the bank have to refund these charges as the account is closed? I receive £45 a week carers allowance as I look after my father fulltime and struggle to meet my rent, council tax and several credit card payments every month. I'm unable to enjoy a social life and am in my opinion in severe financial hardship. Any advice would be sincerely appreciated.

Many thanks

Jay
