I really dont know whats the matter with her. She doesnt seem shy at all, in fact shes quite outgoing. She's not from any religion that says they shouldnt go out on her own. She doesnt even question it!!!

My DD surprised me when she was about 9 by getting up early in school holidays and bringing me tea & toast in bread. Don't know what I was most scared of, scalding herself with hot kettle or spilling it on my then brand new bedroom carpet;)
Seriously though - I now let her loose (just turned 11) with a sharp paring knife in the kitchen to chop vegtables and fruit, she can make toast & hot drinks including warming milk in microwave (I tell her to put spoon in cup after she has opened the door and before removing cup and give a quick stir in case it explodes from an air pocket). I've also let her use the tin opener and turn on gas hob etc as she made a bolegnese sauce the other day. I won't let her take hot plates from the oven or carry hot saucepans across the room. I've also taught her to use the washing machine, peg the clothes out and iron her own clothes. She is only to use the iron though if I have set it up and am in the room.
When I read this back she sounds like cinderella:o
she will be able to look after herself when she leaves home then :T
she will make someone a great wife one day
i think its good to get them to do things for themselves (so long as not too dangerous for their age)0 -

I think thats more his problem then her then, i think he's being too over protective  He needs to let her go out herself in order for her to gain confidence and grow into a confident independant women.0 -
When my son was 3 nearly 4 he was sick shortly before he went to bed. He woke in the ealy hours of the morning around 3 am complaining he was hungry. I told him to go back to sleep. Shortly afterwards I heard a noise downstairs. I went to see what it was and found son making himself a jam sandwich  .Poppy9 wrote:As we on about age kids allowed to do things at what age do you let your children loose in the kitchen to cook.

:rotfl: that sounds like my son. We nicknamed him the stealth assassin because he can creep downstairs in the early hours and make himself a snack without so much as making a floorboard creek!
Usually the only evidence of him being down stairs was the crumbs in the morning. It got to the point where we had to put a lock on the kitchen door  Once he realised there was no point in him going down for a midnight feast he stopped in bed where it was warm, I haven't put the lock on the kitchen door for months now....but he doesn't know that lol0 -
My eldest sone(11) is an idle so and so. I have to nag and shout at him to even put his plate in the sink after tea. I am about to start him on real chires soon to earn his pocket money - like washing up and dusting - lol
Youngest son(5) is a wonderful wife. We started the spring cleaning this weekend together while eldest was upstairs on his N64! O did the vacuuming whilst he poodled around with the pledge duster. Then he wanted a wet cloth to get up the coffee rings - and the more he cleaned the more dirt he found - lol.
Then he started the sweeping in the kitchen before I mopped it, whilst I was mopping - he took the little Dustbuster upstairs and did my room and his room, then the stairs!!!
My living room is all sparkly now!! Lovely lad and he's getting the best present I can afford for his birthday - He has asked for a pasta maker RAFLMAO!!!!!Noli nothis permittere te terere

is this the "norm" for all her friends too then
seems very OTT for a 16 yr old
i can understand him not wanting her to get in with " the wrong crowd" etc
but surely he has to stop at some point? lol
when shes married perhaps

it must be stifling for her and she may rebel before long

:rotfl: @ your son spendless :rotfl:0
