A union representing workers sacked by Total for taking unofficial industrial action at Lindsey Oil Refinery is planning a mass rally.
The GMB is organising the gathering at the North Lincolnshire site on Tuesday, in protest at Total's decision not to take part in peace talks.
The firm sacked 650 workers for taking wildcat action, giving them till Monday evening to reapply for their jobs.
Some workers say they will burn their dismissal notes in a protest on Monday.
That act of defiance is to be held close to the refinery on Monday morning.
I say, where is this going?, how can a company be allowed to bring in foreign
workers house them [in a tent] and put another 1000 men on the dole.

And your point is what?0

Worker employed to carry out task. Worker walks out and doesnt carry out task. worker is sacked.
Seems entirely fair to me.
In all honesty even giving them an option to reapply is something they dont deserve
At a time when the country needs to save money why should they be blackmailed.0 -

Are you saying they did not deserve to be dismissed for taking unofficial action?
Perhaps we should all go on strike?Gone ... or have I?0 -

I dont see what the problem is.
total sacked these people because they went on an unofficial strike, over a sub contractor taking on people when total let some people go.
is it not up to the sub contractor who or where they hire from?
since when has it been up to unions to dictate how a company is run, do these people not realise we no longer live in the 70's and 80's0
