Yesterday hubbie got a letter from DWP saying they were going to take £3.25 a week from his JSA to pay BOROUGH CNCL HSG.
We currently claim full Hb so thats ok. He was made redundant in Feb and while he was working we paid full rent. I have all the receipts here.
Not had any previous letters to so that we owe any money or that they are going to take any off us.
Cannot believe this - will phone in the morning and see whats what.

Not much advice I can give really.
The Council have applied to have rent arrears recovered from your benefit. You'll need to speak to them in the morning to find out whether you are in arrears ... and if not to get them to contact Job Centre Plus to stop the deductions. Did you apply for Housing Benefit at the time he claimed JSA ? Or did you apply late ?0 -
We don't have any rent arrears - never have had. Appllied for all the benefits at the same time. Have had rent statements since he was made redundant that show the accountis clear.Wins in 2013 - Jan - Heinz No Noise Ketchup.0

The arrears could be for a previous financial year. Although you might be up to date this year the arrears could go way back. We regularly receive requests for deductions from benefit to cover rent arrears ... some go back over 10 years. The arrears might even be for a Council different to the one you've got today, might relate to an old address ?
Clutching at straws really. Give us an update tmorro after you've spoken to the Council.0 -
Thanks will phone them - but honestly have lived in this property for well over 12 years and never had rent arrears.Wins in 2013 - Jan - Heinz No Noise Ketchup.0
