incompatable balance transfer!

i've applied for a tesco 0% balance transfer credit card and have been accepted. When i''ve tried to transfer my argos and next account over to this i was told by tesco that these companies plus homebase don't allow balance transfers. I've looked in my T+C's with these companies and can't find anything about this. Has anybody had this problem? I'm thinking about closing the tesco account and changing cards but dont want to apply for another just to have the same problem. Argos don't even allow payments by credit card either.

As Tesco offer 0% for 12 months on purchases why not pay your Next account off by using your Tesco card to make a payment?

Come to that, you could settle all your bills with the Tesco card.

Some water & sewage companies accept credit card payments, as do electricity & gas suppliers. You can also pay your home insurance and telephone bills by credit card and some local authorities accept payment of council tax by this means.

That would free up some funds to pay off your store cards ;)

Caution: some utility companies will not accept credit card payments or charge a premium for their use.

  • i asked if i could do that but paying a bill with the card is not classed as a purchase and interest is charged on this. Fair enough it would be at a lower rate than what i'm paying with next but the whole point of getting a transfer card was to pay no interest at all in order to get things paid of quicker.

It is classed as a purchase. I have done it often with my credit card and my Next account
  • not according to tesco customer service. And it also says on my statement when i log onto my account that paying a bill, paying money to someone, or transferring money to a bank account are not classed as purchases and are charged interest.

The Argos card is a store card and not a credit card. The account numbers on the card are longer than 16 digits i believe and the card cannot be used anywhere except Argos.

It's badly worded then. I agree that paying money to someone or transferring money to a bank account are not classed as purchases, but every time you go shopping with your Tesco card, you're paying bills of some sort

The current Tesco deal offers 0% on BTs for 6 months and you would have been charged a 3% BT fee.

If you put as much of your outgoings on the Tesco card as poss, you'll have 0% for 12 months on your purchases and of course there are no handling charges to pay. That's not a bad deal in the present climate, IMO ;)

It has a 19 digit number. This question (of BTing an Argos card debt) gets asked a lot on this board. The best option is to apply for an SBT card such as MBNA, Virgin, etc and settle it with a 0% transfer of cash to your current account (there will be a fee payable though).
