It depends on which Insurer and what sort of cover you have.

Which Insurer are you with and do you know whether or not you have accidental damage cover.

I would suggest you also post on the MSE "Techie" forum as with water there are often ways you can dry the lap top out and for it to work.If there are ways to dry it out / fix it cheaply there is a good chance they will know the answer. Do not try and switch it on at the moment and disconnect the battery / mains as this can cause short circuits whens it wet which can cause damage.
  • its with morethan, standard contents with an excess of £100 and accidental cover

It looks like it should be covered either under the following section or the accidental damage section

Accidental damage to televisions, satellite or
digital receivers (including aerials and satellite
dishes fixed to your home), audio and video
    entertainment equipment, computer equipment
and games consoles while in your home.
Audio and video entertainment equipment and
computer equipment does not include items
designed for handheld or portable use (other
    than portable televisions and laptop
    computers), musical instruments, mobile
phones, records, tapes, discs, memory cards
and sticks, CDs, DVDs, computer and video
    games.

What you have to bear in mind that you will have to contribute your £100 excess and will lose some of your no claims bonus and have a claim against you so your premium will go up at renewal.

If you have building and contents with More Than and got the "Free" contents cover they have recently been offering then More Than do not offer the "Free" contents at renewal so they will start charging for it which will mean your premium will go up even more with More Than. However there is nothing to stop you shopping around at renewal although as stated before the premium is likely to be more than you paid last year.

You could follow the advice Quentin gives in these cases and run quotes through with More Than and on comparison sites with and without the claim so you can get a ROUGH idea of what the premium will be at renewal.

As I said before try posting in the Techie Forum as there is a good chance they might no of ways that are free or cheap to fix the lap top as water sometimes does little or no damage if its dried out properly. In addition There are companies such as Rainbow who specialise in repairing water damage and they may be cheaper than PC World
