Problem With Aspire Acer One

Hope someone can help.

I bought one of these about 6 months ago from Asda.

Haven't used it much - decided to have a play yesterday - it worked fine for a few minutes - then I had to dash off somewhere for 30 mins so I just shut the case.

Got back - it's dead.

All it will do now when I switch it on will display the Bios F2 option screen, before switching to a light blue screen with 'Aspire One' in a nice font on the bottom right of the screen - and then nothing else.

Any ideas??

If it wasn't plugged into the mains and you haven't charged the battery recently, closing the lid (and thus leaving it in standby mode) will have drained the battery completely in a relatively short space of time.

By the way, what operating system is on it?

    Linux.

OK - but I've had it on charge for a few hours today - can't get beyond the blue screen..

Brought our daughter one ( Aspire Acer One) for last christmas from tesco we had no end of trouble with it in the end we took it back and had our money back we even brought a external cd/dvd drive to reinstall the operating cd but in the end it kept going wrong every couple of days if i was you i would be take it back and get your money back (also if you have to use the cd that came with it do not use it with your main computor cos it will mess it up)

If you don't have access to an external DVD drive with which to restore the system to its original state, you could try installing something else on it.

The Ubuntu Netbook Remix, for example. All you need is a USB flash drive, a working computer and a modest sense of adventure. :)

    This is beyond me.

    BIOS recovery.

    BIOS available here.

    Another possibility here.

    Read all before proceeding.

It's only slightly more complex than what you're going to have to do anyway, should a BIOS upgrade be insufficient. In fact, upgrading the BIOS is - if anything - a more daunting experience than installing an operating system!

doing this from my much-fiddled AA1, may I suggest firing it up without the battery in, then shutting it down, putting the battery in and trying again.

If it turns off after 20-30 seconds, flip it over and thwack it on the bottom fairly gently...the fans stick and cause a thermal shutdown to occur.

When I got mine it was doing what yours did...and IIRC I swapped the battery with the one from my OHs AA1, then started it up and swapped them over quick. Never been an issue since.

I've done the RAM upgrade to mine..1.5Gb is nice to have. It's also running XP as I need it for work, and for using as a car daignostic system, and the software for that is XP only.

I did the UNR, I've had standard Linpus, tweaked Linpus, and tthe newer version of Linpus...I liked them all. It'll be XP for a while yet though.
