Balance transfer from MBNA card

Somewhere on this site it states that as Abbey is now Santander and no longer MBNA there should be no problem transferring from MBNA to Abbey. When I approached Abbey they would not accept the transfer. Has anyone done this?

Who owns a bank and who provides its cards are not necessarily the same thing. Abbey may have been bought by Santander but MBNA probably still provide their cards.

No, Abbey Credit Cards (including the famous Zero card) are provided by Santander.

It is possible that there are some legacy Abbey Credit Cards previously supplied by MBNA, but these will be phased out over time.

I don't think this should be a problem, but I have not ever done this so hopefully others can advise.

Sorry, but MBNA are still providing many Abbey cards, along with Bradford & Bingley and at least some A+L.

I don't know about Bradford & Bingley or A&L but I am surprised about MBNA still providing Abbey cards because I remember them offering card-holders a fee-free 0% deal to transfer to the Santander supplied card and that was a couple of years ago. The Abbey Zero card is definitely 100% a Santander product.

Well Abbey do also issue their own cards, if that helps ;-)

Does anybody know whether MBNA are likely to call in a credit card balance, if you re-claim credit card charges, or payment protection?
