Hi, this is one big question, so bare with me pls...
I am a new motorcyclist and passed my CBT in Jan '09. When I bought my first bike, I didn't know how long I would be riding it so I paid for a full 12 months of comprehensive insurance up-front.
I've since passed my full bike licence and bought a new bike which I need to insure (obviously). As I will be selling my first bike, I need to know what will happen to my NCB if I:
a) stay with my current insurer and change the details of the policy regarding my new status, or
b) cancel my current insurance and go with another company
I intend to call my insurer to change or cancel the policy within the next week, but it would be helpful to me if I new what I might expect in advance so we can avoid any 'translation' problems.
Any help is much appreciated. Cheers!!

In the case of A, your NCB will continue building up exactly as it would have done if you hadn't changed the vehicle insured.
For B, your NCB would be the level you had at your last renewal (i.e. the time with your current insurer doesn't count). Remember that your current insurer may also charge a cancellation fee.0 -

I forgot I posted this, but I can say that my NCB was not offered as a continuation, so your answer to my first question didn't quite tie-in with my own experience.
I called my insurer, and they told me I needed to take a new policy. So I shopped around, and found a better deal. When I called them back to cancel my old policy they beat the price, so I just stayed with them. However, they were not willing to carry-forward the NCB from the start of the original policy.0
