I have a young person's railcard which is definitely a student must-have (unless you drive everywhere). I got mine free from Natwest when i got a student account, but even if they're not doing it anymore, you will almost definitely save more than the £20 you have to pay for a year.
  • My Young Person's Railcard is a godsend. Especially as you can have one until you're 25!

    I've been Money Tipped!
It doesn't matter how old you are as long as you are a full time student - as a mature student, if I want one, then I have to get my college to stamp it, but I can still get one at the grand old age of 41 - lol

But it's more cost effective for me to get the family railcard ATM anyway with the kids.

Get an HSBC student account or a Natwest Student account and they give you one free, or barclays gives you a National Express NX2 card free, in case you prefer to sit around on clapped out coaches instead of rail...

Your college student card won't get you anywhere, I'm afraid! Everyone else is right ...

For some reason you can't get yp railcard with NUS ID. You either need a stamp from your college or an ISIC card. The advantage of the latter is that it is valid until December 31st of the year you buy it, so if your student status expires before that you can still get a YP railcard up to the end of the year. If they accepted NUS cards this loophole wouldn't exist, so it serves them right

you don't need any sort of student ID for a YPR, just proof of age...

I was last a student in 2003, and I'm still living it up with my railcard (well worth the money.... make it back on one trip alone...)

You do if you're over 25 but still a student (in which case you're entitled to the YP railcard but need to prove student status) :)
