Kitchen unit door hinges - which is this?

Most kitchen unit door hinges are designed so the door lies over the cabinet sides........ so when the door is closed, you dont see the cabinet, only the door. I think these are standard 100 degree things.

I want hinges that site the door away from the cabinet edge so that the edge is visable. But I cant find examples of this on the net and I have no idea what to actually search for. I know you get them as I have a pair already but they came with some flat pack thing or other years ago so I didnt actually buy them.

Any ideas what I mean and what they are/where I might get them?

  • Do know what you mean but not sure what they are called offhand, i usually just screw on an 18mm fillet rip onto the carcass set back the thickness of the door and use the normal hinges, this achieves the same thing.

Thanks, I've just searched and found them. I'm using larder unit doors as 'proper' doors on a walk in kitchen cupboard so that the room looks more streamlined and 'fitted'. Because there is architrave around the doorframe, the inset hinges would be better I think.

Edit: One thing I'm not clear about, is the difference between sprung and unsprung hinges and which should be used where? Any advice on that please?

Bump...anyone answer the sprung/unsprung q in the last post please?

  • Get the sprung, they pull the door closed same as all your kitchen doors do, the unsprung one's will need some kind of catch fitted to keep them shut

    Hi,

Its kind of up to you, sprung hinges snap back to the closed position, so you might need some sort of door stop.
