Getting A Gas Supply

Hi,please bare with me if these questions sound rather daft.

My parents live in a flat, there is no gas supplied to this flat,no meters ect.
The local authority are due to come round and replace if they want the old system, which is storage heaters,to gas central heating.
Now they say that they will instal the system, but they have to pay for the gas to be instaled, now do they mean the pipes, meter and connection, and everything apart from the radiators.
Or do they just mean a new meter to have the gas supply fitted to.
Does anyone have any idea of how much this is to have one fitted.
I dont live in the same town as parents so its rather hard to get the information of the people who are doing the works, and dont really know what mother has asked or if she really understands what she has to pay for.
She is desperate for the storage heaters to be taken out,but at what cost.
If know one knows how much it's likely to be,who do I ring or ask to find out,I cant really go over there at the mo,as ive so much going on here.

thankyou all.

You need to say if the flats are local authority owned. If they are,and they are installing gas central heating, then they will arrange for new gas services i presume??

yes they are local authority owned, but they say she has to pay for a meter, and we dont know how much this will be,also they are 59 and 60 and not a lot of money,do you think the gas company will let them have the cost on a bill to pay off weekly or will they have to pay a lump sum .Thanks again.

you will need to contact the gas supplier of choice to discuss the meter installation side of things

do different companies charge a different price for instalation, and would we have to ring up all of them to find out individually what the cost is,or is there a fixed rate, and if so how do we find out what it is.

Again that is something only the gas suppliers could advise, personally the first step would to be to check the tarffs and see which company offers the best for the needs of the people involved and then contact the companies for info - being a council property they may arrange mtr installation with a company for all properties being worked on - again ask them about that
