Suggestions on how to tackle BT over final bill dispute

We recently asked to change over our Broadband connection together with telephone line and talktime from BT to Sky and was ensured of a 'seamless transfer'.
The broadband transition occurred on 27th May; the phone on 11th June and Sky promised to arrange everything for us. However, we are now receiving threats from BT regarding non-payment of the quarterly bill which covers May-July.
We contacted BT Customer service and they told us by e mail that everything had been cancelled from the 27th May and that we would receive a second final (the original amounting to £150.91) and the new bill arrived today for £135.95. Considering we expected to pay a month penalty clause with a possible two weeks extra we were astounded when we rang them today and were told that had we paid the £150.91 we would now be in credit?
The main problem though is that why should we be penalised for the entire three month period?? Surely the penalty clause remains at one month?
Any advice please?
Thanks
