Barclaycard-should I be worried??!!

Hi,

This might seem like a bit of a strange post, but I just want a different opinion!!
I got in from work today and there was an automated answerphone message saying 'this is an important call from barclaycard for *jane bloggs* please could you call us on 12345 67890'-something to that effect anyway.

Well........I am NOT Jane bloggs-I do have, and have had a barclaycard for about 9 years now. I thought I had better ring them up and say they'd rung the wrong number, in case it was a VERY important call for jane bloggs. Anyway I get through and explain and the woman takes my name and address etc etc and then she tells me the call was for me because my payment was late -I know this because I had a phone call 2 days ago, and I told them I would pay it within 7 days (not very mse of me, but I just forgot!!) I tell the woman this, and that I had said I was able to pay within this time as I will have been paid etc But I was still trying to explain to her that i was concerned that my number had been rung for somebody else-for the other person and for me, and why would I be getting another phone call before the end of the 7 days? And she just gave me some babble about how they ring so many people, sometimes the numbers etc get muddled?!?!

Is this something I should be worried about or is it something that happens a lot?

Thanks-you!!

firstly, id set up a direct debit for at least the minimum to avoid the nasty charges they apply:money:
secondly, just check your credit files for free atm on the 30 day free trials, equifax and experian then check to make sure theres no problems with these (make sure you cancel them before the end as they are very expensive)
if no problems with them relax theres not a problem (and the numbers were prob a mix up as they state)
if there are problems on it contact the companys involved to try and resolve

please keep us updated on what happens
    please just thank me:p

your post is not strange and your reaction a perfectly normal reaction. But did you call back on the number left on the voicemail or on your card.

I would warn people against ever calling back numbers left on voicemails especially by financial companies. Not that they are intent onfraud. but how do you verify whether the caller is genuinely from the card company or anyone who managed to get hold of your card statement and then ur telephone number. You statements will always show your details...cardnumber, address, etc. and numbers can always be found out by a bit of research on the internet.

Call me a paranoid nut...but When ever i get a call from any financial company i insist on calling back the number behind the credit card and speaking to the department rather than give any information on the phone.

Some guys can be real hard and threaten closure of suspension of account(happened to me with virgin) but legally they cannot do that as long as you call back. its reasonable to be err on the side of caution even if you owe them as if you give your details out and its is a fraudulent call then you could be responsible for the losses incurred.
