Bank charge

I bank with HSBC and a month ago I was unexpectedly charged £10 on my account. When I enquired about this ammount I was told that I was charged this ammount becasue the terms of my account had changed - because less that £1500 was credited to my account in the the previous month, I was required to pay the £10.
I was not informed of the change of terms to my account and yet I still had to pay the £10! And I was further told that in order to avoid this charge in the future, I have to open a second banking product with HSBC like a savings account. I opted for the basic saving account which reqiures a minimum deposit of £1. I dont even need such an account but I was effectively given no choice. I just find it not right that the bank can spring the £10 charge without giving me advance notice of change of terms and then make me open a second account and block £1 - they have effectively made £11 from nothing and if they do this to all their customers then thats a hefty profit they make out of this.
Has anyone else had a similar problem? Did you manage to aviod the ££10 charge and not have to open a second account?

I would say write in and state exactly what you have written here and possibly add of taking account elsewhere even though you had been happy with their services prior to this issue0
