Got the above from Tesco's yesterday-reduced to half price for quick sale. Its 2.6 kg and vacuum packed. I know I could slice it into steaks but Im wondering if anyone has any other ideas? I was thinking of perhaps roasting it whole for Xmas?0

Have you checked the use-by date on it? If it's immediate, then you need to get it either frozen, for later use, or cooked right now. I'm sure you could cook it now, slice it up and freeze with gravy for eating at Christmas.
That would save a lot of work on Christmas Day itself :j!0 -

My mum used to do this with the turkey every year
I should say it wasnt a case of being lazy or trying to save time but the oven in her old kitchen has a dodgy thermostat on it and she was always worried that if she did the turkey on the day something would go wrong. No-one would have ever guessed that it had been cooked and frozen. It tasted fab and all she had to do was reheat in gravy on the day..........Emma

I do this when beef is on offer (still eating my way through some of the 4 joints I bought before last Christmas when Asda had rump at £4 kilo).
I slice and freeze and pack in small amounts - perhaps enough for two portions. Then it is there for meals or sandwiches. We had the full works with some on Sunday for lunch - it was lovely.
Yours being such a large piece I might be tempted to cut off a few steaks and freeze for later and then cook off the rest.0 -
sirloin makes a great roasting joint. If I were you I'd freeze it down for Christmas, or take a few steaks of it first them freeze the rest.0

I vote for this too
To be honest, if it was me I'd probably cut the whole thing into steaks, sirloin is by far my favourite cut for steak as it's very tender but has far more flavour than fillet. But you've got enough there that you could do both.0 -
I have had very hit and miss experiences with the quality of Tesco steak and for that reason will no longer buy it. (More miss than hit IYKWIM and no, it's not my cooking!)
Maybe you should slice off a steak and sample it now, rather than be disappointed with tough chewy meat on Christmas Day?
PS I hope it's lovely!!0
