No credit rating

in Credit cards
I know this is kind of a tired subject but i cant really wrap my head around it, i'm pretty sure i have no credit rating as apposed to a bad one! (well not "no credit" but you get my drift
)
Anyway i applied for i think two credit cards recently and have been declined for both, both of which were for sub-prime lenders.
I checked a couple months ago with creditexpert concerning my credit report, corrected an electorial roll error and left it a few months, checked again and still had a low rating (i think in the 6 or 7 hundreds on their scale). I had no other errors and it was all fine, i even checked their prediction tool which said it was good
I have had no credit cards, no loans (apart from student loan with studentfinance, only recently too), no unpaid bills etc
I did have a problem with paypal about 6 months ago though, something about the bank refusing the directdebit but i sorted it all out as soon as i could.
What to do now!?
T-mobile offered me a 1 month rolling phone contract with their Solo-15 service but asked that i pay £100 deposit!
Should i? would it improve my score, i could easily afford it so its not much of a problem.
Thanks for reading, Take care,
SB
P.s. only 21, other relatives from same household accepted for same services! I'm only trying to improve my score for a mortgage in the future

there are three sub-prime credit cards vanquis/aqua/capital one, i would try the one of these you have not tried
A contract could help you but its up to you if you want to pay the deposit although i believe that you do get it back but call them to double check that
Have u tried catalogues like JD Williams? Littlewoods? Next? etc etc
Dont do too many searches at once!'Sometimes you just need to keep your mouth shut':j0 -
Two questions:
1. Do you have an income?
2. Have you asked your current account provider for a card?0 -
Search for "How to get on the credit ladder"Bank Accounts - Barlcays Premier[/B] - £1000 o/d, HSBC - £200 o/d- First Direct - £500
Credit Cards - Barclaycard £2000 - Silver Card £1300 - Flybe £7500 - HSBC £1000 - First Direct £2500 First Direct Gold £3000

Yes and yes, a pretty good income and they also refused me but that was a while ago the fact that ive been with them for atleast 10yrs apparently counts for nothing....
seeya23, how much was it and did u get it back?
P.s. thanks for all the quick replies.0 -

Oh wow i didnt know that, only 3 years thats quite annoying
I've had two jobs in the last year both with a good income and only a gap of about a month or two in between them so its almost a solid year. One was part time (the former) but i was working insane amounts of overtime so it worked out at about the same as a full time employee (not sure if that matters or not) and the newest job is full time.
Overall though i've been paying regular amounts into that account since i was 16, granted not as much as i am now but still regular payments...though they do tend to go out as quick as the go in
seeya23, no worries, i just joined them now over the phone. The lady was very nice and helpful she explained that i'd get my deposit back in two months and everything was fine, the sim will be delivered on tuesday with the no del fee (as im "shelling out" as she put it). Hopefully it'll do something towards my credit score.0
