Virgin Trains Cheap Rate Travel!!!!!!! Need Help!!

Hello, we telephoned the Virgin Trains number this morning to try and book two senior saver tickets in May on the special ten pound rate, first of all we got the computerised speaking voice, this said you do not need to press buttons just say what you want, where do you want to go from to etc, etc, this line was an 0870 number! after five minutes at least of going through the whole journey from and back etc, it then said hold on and we will pass you to an Agent .......................................... long wait, then a foreign voice who we could not understand, eventually getting some sort of gist of what they were saying,"we do not have any information in the computer,"" but you must have, we have just told the computer all of the information, correctly, that you required,"" we do not have it, please start again," so we hung up in disgust!!"" So cross, so so cross!!!
The only other way is to go to our local train station which takes a 22 mile round trip, or the internet, which is not easy either when you want a special rate ticket.
HAVE ANY OF YOU TRIED TO DO THIS AND IF SO PLEASE PLEASE TELL US HOW YOU DO IT, NOT MUCH GREY HAIR, BUT GOT A FEW MORE THIS MORNING!!!!
If Martin reads this, please Martin can you help here with these supposedly cheap rate advance fares!!
Thank you, oap's
ps have sent a complaint to Virgin on the net!!Hmmmmmm, copy to Richard Branson!!!

Apology for being a bit late oap with this reply.
I've always found the Virgintrains website very difficult to navigate and to find the special prices on, so it came as no surprise to me that I couldn't find anything about the £10 fares you refered too.
I always use https://www.thetrainline.co.uk for ticket and timetable information. As far as I can work out this site handles all train ticket enquiries for all the train companies. By this I mean that if you have registered for tickets for Virgin (for instance) and you've logged on, you will be transfered to thetrainline server to be sold the ticket. Going directly there is by far the best option - I hope that I haven't confused you.
(as a matter of interest, you'll find also that the log-on details that you use for Virgin, for instance, will work for all the rail companies websites).
The https://www.thetrainline.co.uk website shows all available tickets for any given journey and date (including special offers) and, of course, it will accept railcards.
I hope this helps, and good luck with getting your cheap tickets.0 -

Yes thats right, whatever ticket you can get at the station or by phoning up the operator can be bought on the trainline.co.uk and vice versa as all the UK train tickets are meant to cost the same wherever you buy it.
I use midlandmainline.co.uk which is handled by thetrainline and their services are always brilliant, they send out the tickets by first class straight away for free of charge (depending on how advance you book your tickets) and normally means that i'll get the tickets couple of days after buying them. Also if i buy from midlandmainline.co.uk i get a nice ticket wallet holder thing thats basic, the sort of thing you get with airline tickets but does the job very well holding together all the documents whereas thetrainline.co.uk just sends out tickets in an envelope, just a nice little extra.0 -
as soon as the electronic voice answers, press # or * lots and it will say I don't recognise your response and it will put you through to a real person.....0

Well done allie.
It's been a couple of days since oap made his posting and might not return to see if there's been any response. If it were me and I thought that I could possibly help him out I'd probably drop him a little PM direct.
Have a nice day!0 -
Allie
Do you know if there are any deals for going to Cheltenham Spa on Thursday 13 April and travelling back on Monday 17th April.
ThanksKathy0 -

Off the https://www.thetrainline.co.uk website
13/04/06 10.34 York - 13.21 Cheltenham Spa - £22 (Virgin Value Advance Single A ticket)
17/04/06 10.42 Cheltenham Spa - 13.34 York - £17 (Virgin Value Advance Single B ticket)
Total (if my maths are correct) - £39
You could have done the journey for £12 each way (£24 Return) if you'd booked earlier.
Let's see what allie can do for you0
