disabled child premium?

Hi, my son has just been awarded middle rate care allowance and lower rate mobility allowance for his aspergers. Of course the letter has come at the weekend when i can't contact the DWP!!. Myself and my partner receive income support as my partner is disabled, and i believe that we may be entitled to some kind of disabled child premium, but i'm not sure if that is correct, or how much it would be? Our childrens money comes from income support and not childrens tax credit, i know this because i was told so when i had to ring last week to tell them that my older son is staying on at school, so i don't know if this makes any difference? thankyou in advance for any replies!

The bigger the bargain, the better I feel.

I should mention that there's only one of me, don't confuse me with others of the same name.

    I have 3 kids with a disability so I hope not :)

I never know what I am supposed to say these days, I don't want to offend myself by using the wrong term to describe my kids disablities/handicap/special needs :rotfl:

You should qualify for DCP as part of your Income Support & it should also be backdated to the start of the DLA award too.

You'd be best phoning Income Support first thing Monday morning. Income Support do receive notification from Blackpool about these awards but they take ages to come through and are easily missed. If you phone them you might get the money through more quickly.

.....well thanks for that, as far as i am aware the term 'disabled' is not non-politically correct, i wonder what your suggestion might be for a term to replace it.
  • thankyou for all of your replies, thanks to zappster, i didnt realise that the premium would be backdated, and to cattie for the link. i did wonder if the figures for disabled child premium (£48.72) and Enhanced Disability Child Premium (£19.60) were the wrong way around, i assume that the enhanced premium is paid on top of the other for those who are entitled. many thanks again to all of those who replied!

Enhanced DCP is paid in addition to DCP for children who are on the highest rate of DLA Care. So reckon it's just ordinary DCP you'll get ;-)

Most Income Support offices are swamped right now. Important to give them a ring Monday, try & pin them down to a date as to when the arrears will be paid. Don't accept "we're looking into it" etc etc.

    Aspergers isn't a disability, it's an Ability.

yes i quite agree it is, however it is recognised as a diasability! i wouldn't change my son for the world (or my dad who i am almost positive also has aspergers) but i was only asking for some help, rather than getting into a debate!;) and thanks again zappster, i will have to get my persistent head on before i pick up the phone on monday:D
