Housing benefit - yet again sorry!!!

hi sorry in advance for another question

basically u have just finished uni and am desperately seeking work [ working very hard to find one too i cant stand having nothing to do all day im not a slob] -on JSA.

my question is i have to move out of my rented accomadation in my uni city next saturday which means my ONLY option is to move home with my parents in wales and share a tiny room with my 11 yeart old brother!!! ..

After 3 years of living away gaining independance etc i do not want to do this so an old lecturer of mine said to enquire about Housing benefit

do i have to rent [ one bed sit or shared house - i know this is all i can gte im under 25] in my 'home' area [ie in wales] or can i stay in liverpool and get a room in a shared house here? this may seem like a really stupid question...

if i can choose where i live would sharing a house with other students be an issue? as i have friends who are doing a masters so if i move in there [ have my own joint tenancy] would this effect them in any way? rent would be 51 per week.

im sorry for any stupidity :o

genuine thank you for any replies

x

You can live / claim HB whereever you want. A house share shouldn't be a problem.
Bear in mind that you will be classed as a student until a certain date (no idea when that is though:confused:) and probably won't be able to claim until then.
If you live with other students, it depends on how they occupy the house (sharers/ owners etc) how it would affect them, and if you were in a relationship with one of them.

This won't affect you while on JSA but check out the council tax situation for when you are working and the others still students.

Full time students (although I'm not sure if this applies to post grads) would normally be exempt and, potentially, that could leave you liable for all or 75% of the council tax (for the whole house).

I really don't know if this applies but do check it out just in case - how awful would it be to find a job and end up paying goodness knows how much in council tax when it could be avoided!

I am sure I have read here that it depends on the type of tenancy you have...
