Phone rings at our dealership!

Customer
"I really like the look of your car I saw on the net, would like to trade in my car against it. It's a 2003/03 Megane 1.9DCi 3 door in non metallic blue, extras are full glass roof, auto lights, auto wipers. It has 75000 miles on the clock, no history and I have owned it from new."

Alex
"OK, sounds like a nice car, but why no history? and how much do you think it is worth against our car, i.e. what do you see as a figure to swap?"

Customer
"My mate has serviced it, he's a mechanic, your car is at £10000 so I see me giving you £1500"

Alex
"1500, OK, well honesty pays, I would like the opportunity to call you back after speaking to a couple of Renault dealers if that's OK as it probably has a bit too much mileage for us, we would normally sell this to a Renault dealer or auction it, especially as there is no history, is that OK?"

Customer
"Yes"

One hour later!!

Alex
"OK, I have spoken to seven Renault dealers, honesty is always the best policy so is it OK to tell you what we were offered?"

Customer
"Yes"

Alex
"Well everyone I spoke to said that the car is well specced, but the mileage and lack of service history really stand against it, therefore five dealers said that they did not want it and one offered £3200 and the other £2990, so I am not sure how you want to proceed from here? What are you thinking?"

Customer
"Well I feel as if you should move on the price of your car"

Alex
"OK, I am always open to negotiation, I want your business, what do you propose"

Customer
"I will give you £2500 plus my car and a 1996 Fiat Bravo 1.6SX in White with 88000 on the clock and no history"

Alex
"OK, I'm sorry, but that wont happen"
