Double barrel surname

Hi, I have a feeling I know the answer to this , but I'll ask anyway:rolleyes:. DS Is going to portugul with his friends family next month. He has a double barrel surname but always calls himself the first part. So, when ds's freinds mother booked the ticket, this is the surname she used.By coincidence, last week I asked DS to make sure his ticket was definately in his full surname as to my knowledge she had only asked her son, what names to put down.I had assumed her son knew ds's proper surname-he didn't.
Apparently now, freinds mother is saying the pair of them have to cover the cost of the name change. The main issue I have on that front, Is she should have confirmed everything with me and has not been as on the ball with everything as i am when it comes to holidays. But on the whole, I can't blame anyone or to expect anyone else to pay but my son as he calls himself this.
So, does anyone know how strict airlines are with double barrel names-their flying with easyjet

The name on your DS ticket must match the name in his passport. Have you tried contacting easyjet and explaining the situation. You aren't actually changing a passenger, but ammending a name to match a passport. I have a double barrel surname as well, and had the same problem, I called the airline (wasn't easy jet) and they just ammended the name, and they didn't charge me as I wasn't changing the passenger.0

Double barrelled surnames are the curse of the travel industry. No offence meant but ticketing and GDS booking systems do not accept the hyphen in these names, in the same way that they don't accept the apostrophe in other names. I cannot begin to count the number of times that a client hasn't received their confirmation because the system doesn't retain the punctuation in their name and once in a while, we do get irate calls from more prissy people who take exception to their flight tickets not having the correct punctuation.
I have one particular client who has a double barrelled name but only travels in the first half of his family name and he manages ok. Airlines are very used to this and rarely charge for this change, except for some of the budget ones who take the opportunity to screw more money out of everyone. Major airlines tend to view it as additional information rather than an actual change, but may charge a small fee to reissue new tickets if needs be. It really does depend on the individual airline concerned.0
