Hi all, has anyone got any recommendations for a good hoem phone provider. BT just seems so expensive. £30 a month when i only make 1 or 2 short calls every few days.
Also the line is in the last person who lived in heres name and they won't let us change they want us to pay £125 for reconnection when we are already connected!! I do't mind paying the bill in previous persons name as I have been using the service but that much money just to change the name is disgusting!!!
Looking quickly the post office seems good. Do they have a good service etc??
Thank for your help
Emma

£30 a month is surely for broadband and line rental? You could cut that down to £17.50 for both with someone like TalkTalk, just depends if they are available at your exchange. Put your details in this site, and it will let you know whats available http://www.samknows.com/broadband/checker2.php?page=availability-wholesale-availabilityI used to have a signature but it disappeared and I just couldn't be bothered writing another, so please feel free to ignore this.0 -
Unlikely it will be straightforward to get any new services on that line without the Account Holders permission I would think.
Seeing as the OP is not the account holder they cannot get a MAC for transferring any broadband, an existing service will have a marker on the line, and any new voice provider would also need the AC holders permission to transfer services seeing as the account is active.
Leaving aside the legality of using a service with someone else's identity.0 -

Their should not be a £125 reconnection charge. Existing subscriber representative stops it.You start it the same day under your name. BT shouldnt raise a charge.
Can you breakdown exactly what your getting for £30 so we can advise you further.0 -

Signing up online for a 18185 account and using 18185 for your non-inclusive calls will get your call costs down (the possible 30 odd calls mentioned above would then cost £1.50 instead of £7.80).Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.0 -
I changed from BT to Talk Talk, pay 15.99 per month and ALL my calls are free and I can call my Sister in Australia for free (up to 59 mins then hang up and re-dial if I wanted)0

From what I've read, when they're good, they're good but when they're bad ...............Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market.
