I can maybe see where you're coming from with an Acer but what's wrong with Dells?Toshiba L350-203 17in Laptop. (£399)

The above 3 machines have exactly the same CPU and RAM so I'd pick whichever size screen you feel hapiest with. You don't mention weight. Would you be carrying it around? Disk space is so cheap nowadays I'd ignore this, if you run out you can buy an external HDD e.g. a Western Digital Mybook for £50 or so.0 -
Hi many thanks for your reply, i already have a dell and i am not that impressed with it to be honest - build quality is rubbish it wouldnt want another one..
do the ones i have shortlisted look decent machines - what would you consider to be the best ? travelling would be minimal so weight not an issue
thanks again0 -
If it were me I'd stay well away from the Fujutsu-Siemens. The other two look fine. You could consider a RAM upgrade if you find either machine a bit slow.
Also be aware Microsoft are releasing a new Operating System in October called Windows 7. A great improvement over Vista and widely accepted as a very good build from what's been released so far. So dependant on how quickly you need this machine you could wait a while. There will of course be a period of time when you can buy a laptop with Vista and be eligable for a free upgrade to Windows 7. Companies offer this as they expect some people to wait so to ensure they still get sales they give you the option of a free upgrade.0 -
Many thanks for your help and advice. i didnt know about the new os - def worth thinking about.
thanks again for your help

Nothing wrong with Vista, yes when first came out was useless. But i have no problems with it. From watching videos and reading about Windows 7, seems to be very little different. Not something the average user will care about anyway. I will be sticking with Vista.
By the way i have Acer laptop and it's superb. Best ive ever had(and ive had a few).
Also DO NOT BUY A Fujutsu-Siemens LAPTOP OR ANYTHING MADE BY THEM.
They are useless and two laptops from them broke down in just over a year.
From 3 you put up, the Toshiba be my choice.

To help decide why not find the support number and call it, see how long they take to answer and see if you can where the call centre is, try several times of day to be sure, fairly sure you'll find that will rule out some suggestions easily0
