Of course there are laws (and sellers' guidelines) against this.
I know but I wasn't sure how far it extended - is it genuinely illegal to sell to someone who;s accompanied by minors/ what would be the point of that law, when they could just leave the kids outside?August grocery challenge: £50
Spent so far: £37.40 :A0 -
So now the kids don't have a pressie for their father and tomorrow both boys are playing cricket for the Chenies first eleven so they're hardly likely to get chance to go tomorrow.
Why can't Alice go out and buy a box of chocs from the local garage, lazy cow.0 -
It all comes under selling alcohol by proxy which the supermarkets use a challenge 25 policy. Theres a huge thread on the vent board because it happened to me!
I was disgusted at the time, and as I tell everyone now, if you look under 25, don't go in with any brothers/sisters/friends under 18 or anyone without ID 18-25 as they won't serve you...because in their eyes your passing it onto that person next to you.
So I walked into the Spar over the road and we got served with no ID, they should've done that!0 -
Tesco do sell alcohol to under 18's.
I've just got back from Tesco with my 9 year old niece. She wanted to get her dad something for Fathers day & having no better ideas decided to get him a few cans of his favourite beer.
Like many young children she likes using the self scan checkouts. She scanned the beer, waited for an assistant to authorise it , then paid for it with her own money.
The assistant knew she was with me, so was happy to authorise the sale. (or at least that's what I think)
But technically you could argue that Tesco sold alcohol to a minor.0 -

You found a good Tesco!
I went in with OH (I'm 25 and they're 23), got a few bits of shopping and some alcohol. Went to pay with my money and was asked for ID, provided it and was told it was tough as OH didn't have any with them...and of course I was going to pass a bottle of Jacques onto my OH to get wasted on 4.5% :rolleyes:0 -

You found a good Tesco as well. One of you had no ID, you do not get served.0 -
Under 18s are not allowed to buy alcohol. The 16 year old wanted to buy alcohol. The sale was rightly refused.
The law does not say that under 18s can buy alcohol as long as they aren't consuming it and are accompanied by people over 18.Murphy's No More Pies Club #209
