Hi there! This is the Daily Thread for Sat 20th June. This is an 'Over the garden fence' type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone is welcome, so please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have screens, or slow internet connections, so please DON'T post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred.
When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly, but if not, it's not a problem.
Please do not start a new Daily Thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two Daily Threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new Daily Thread after they get up in the morning. Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “Hi everyone, hope you are all well” type start is just as good!
Morning OS chums!
Not sure if I will see Tris today but it's worth getting up early just in case.
to the thread lav1979, it's great to have you here.
Bitsy - hope you had a great anniversary and sorry to hear you had to cut your holiday short!
Penpin - Hope you're feeling well today
Jayward - Happy belated anniversary to you.
Halight - we were supposed to have our loft done but literally couldn't empty it despite two days of trying!
Ruthibe - sorry to hear about your MIL hon.
FairyE - you must be so excited! I hope you get lots of fun from it.
Lamewolf - good to see you again
Loopy - hugs hon
Ok, so I finally got to see the diabetic nurse and dietician on Thurs. I saw the consultant on the 2nd April and he said it would be about two weeks so they were both full of apologies - apparently my notes were 'mislaid' somewhere between the diabetic clinic and the dietician! Good job diabetes type 2 isn't life threatening!! Anyway I now have my Byetta medication in an injection pen and will have to start injecting tomorrow. Seeing the needle makes me 'freeze' a little but I can overcome that I am sure. And now I can no longer ignore the fact that I am a diabetic!
I will toddle off and get the BM on shortly and have some sultana bran for breakfast as we don't have any bread left. Better check and see if there is any washing to go in the machine, though I think we are pretty much up to date with the last two sunny days being windy too.
We are still looking for someone to come and help with some of the heavier garden work that needs doing to take the pressure off my OH who despite working two jobs AND caring for me, now has the garden as a fourth job as he has to do all the grunt work! So I am going to find someone who can do a few hours now and again to do stuff like paint the fence and mow the lawns and 'tote that barge, lift that bale'.. :rotfl:
So - I hope your weekend starts well - warm gentle

Morning MSD & all who follow.
Been up since 4 with an attack of hayfever, not really suffered before, nevermind I shall probably have a snooze later.
We don't have a lot of plans for the weekend, hubby will watch the GP & I shall try to fill another couple of binbags from the spare room, I also need to make an apron for DD, it's her birthday soon & I've bought her a set of Jamie Oliver storage jars with blue lids, I have some blue fabric with butterflies on it in my stash & will make the apron out of that. I don't have a pattern so will have to improvise.
Have a good day everyone.
Hugs Hester

Good morning MSD, Hester, and all who follow.
MSD - good luck with the injections. I'm sure you'll be taking it all in your stride before long.
Well, I seem to be MIA from here a lot these days. Despite the fact that life seems more relaxed here in France than in the UK, I still don't know where my time goes! It just seems to disappear at a rate of knots.
Anyway, we're getting on with the house, slowly but surely. Someone was supposed to have made a return visit to view the building plots we have for sale on Thursday. They didn't turn up, but the agent said they couldn't make it, so they are meant to be coming back today. He said they are still keen, so we're keeping our fingers crossed.
The weather looks like it will be good today, so we'll be pottering about in the garden. The farmer next door is going to mow the building plots for us with his tractor thingy, so we have to take some post-and-wire fencing out to give him a run straight through. It's too much to mow with our mower. All he will take in return is a bottle of whiskey, and we have to force him to take that!
You may remember the other day I mentioned a calf in the farmer's herd that could not stand very well. We mentioned it to the farmer, who said that it had arthritis. He didn't seem too worried! The calf is managing to stand for around ten minutes at a time now but I have noticed another one with the same problem, who is really struggling. Obviously, the farmers here just let nature take its course, but I still worry about them. The animals don't seem distressed; they don't cry or anything, but I hate seeing them just lying there, when all the other calves are running around the field.
Dinner tonight is undecided (don't worry, it won't be veal!), because I have to do some food shopping. Probably do something with salad, so that I can pick another lovely lettuce from the garden.
Anyway, hope you all have a good day.

Morning. Lazy saturday with just one small cup of coffee as there was only a dribble of milk left.
Well fishing yesterday was cancelled. NO sooner had I finished on the computer, made sandwiches etc, the skipper called me to say it was too rough to go out. The 20 mph westerly winds just ruined it. So I had to frantically call about and cancel. Bro will be happy as he would have missed out this time.
So I cut the grass instead....After going to work and court to see the sentence passed on a case of mine. 3 yrs.
Friends over later who are bringing big steaks! Looking forward to that, after I get a new bottle of gas for the grill. The last lot somehow leaked out!
Cheers folks have a nice wekendNO to pasty tax We won!!!! Just shows that people power works! Don't be apathetic to your cause!0 -
Morning peeps
nice and bright outside, we did have a shower of rain earlier but it looks nice now. Hope it stays dry though as i need to cut the grass later.
I shall be off to MrM later too to spend the last of my £5 vouchers and afterwards i hope to spend some more time in the garden as i have 3 more tubs to fill and plant up, one needs holes drilling in the bottom. I have another lovely courgette in my fridge courtesy of my plants in the greenhouse and there are another 4 small ones which will soon grow, i love courgettes and i can see the difference in size everyday as they grow so fast.
Redruby - I also go around the greenhouse with a paintbrush just to "make sure"my dad catches bees and puts them into the greenhouse for an hour on a cool day as he has trouble holding anything small like a brush these days.
Jayward / Bitsy - A belated "Happy Anniversary" to you both
Lav1970 - Welcome to the daily!
I`m off to make a quick cuppa now and afterwards i shall scrub the bathroom to within an inch of its life before doggie walking.
Have a good day everyone.
SDPlanning on starting the GC again soon0 -

Morning Chums, busy day here today.I have to pick up one of my DGS from school at 9.00.a.m.as he has been on a sleepover last night there. teachers must have the patience of saints.40 little 9 year-old boys all around a campfire last night toasting marshmallows Bless him he was so excited .His imediate brother (Henry, 8) down from him was lost last night without him.
Then I have a three hour Uni lecture and at 1.00 I am home to get the bacon on the go for my strapping 18 year old DGS who is bringing a lawnmower around to mow my lawn for me.He is off to Spain with his young lady on Monday for 10 days and was determined to see me before he went.He has been doing work experience at the Meridian Studios for the past two weeks, and hopefully he has got the offer of a job there when he comes back from his holiday. He has finished at College and wants to get into t.v. production and has been offered a stint on a childrens show about cooking. So he is thrilled to bits as its very hard to get your foot through the door.So in exchange for my shorn lawn he will get a pile of crispy bacon sarnies .He's just under 6ft and thin as a rake and can eat for England bless him. Weather looks a bit overcast at the moment but its dry and warm if a bit grey. Longest day tomorrow, then the nights start to draw in again.Well time to get a wriggle on,hope everyone has a great week-end and get to do all they want.
Cheers JackieO xx0 -

Morning Guys!
Ive not been too well these past few days, so havent posted much. Hospital didnt go well on Wednesday and I am back on Monday to see what my options are. TBH, I am truly fed up with it all:mad:
Anyway, the cleaner came Thursday morning at 7.15am:eek::eek::eek::eek:....I was still in knickers and crop top and OH in boxers:D.....it was classic.....said maybe 7.30 from next week and not earlier:p The last 3 weeks she has done a grand job. The cleaning company I had been using for the past 2.5yrs had stopped doing domestic cleaning, but this cleaner worked for them already so knew she was good and alot cheaper:j:j:j
Managed to book 2 Travelodge £9 rooms. 1 for the shopping outlet we go to once a year and the other for DD & OH near Alton Towers as they have free tickets already-so just petrol and snacks. They still have loads left for Nov-Jan 2010...so have a look.
WM has been on numerous times this week and all dried outside as the weather has been kind. Done a large batch of soup and chilli.
OH has done all skirting, coving and architrave with help from his mate this week, so bedroom looking great.
Lots of other stuff, ut cant remember.
Hugs to all.

Morning all,
Its a little bit overcast here today, I hope it blows over as load no:1 of 3 is in the wm, I need to get it all hung out.
Sounds like there will be a few of us tickling our veg this weekend.
Oh has gone out to the boot sale, and dd is still in bed with little dog , so all peacefull here, I have a huge pot of tea, and will get myself some breakfast in a while.
Need to empty the bin this morning, hoover through and mop floors, 3 washing to be done, and the kitchen and bathroom need a swipe, then we can go out, OH and I will do our Saturday walk, with a picnic, and dd is off with her dad for the day.
Tea tonight will be a BBQ, as long as the weather holds, I have some sausages, and some lamb mince which I will make into burgers and kebabs, which we will cook indoors if the weather breaks. I will pick some lettuce from my garden, I cant wait for my cues and toms to be ready, and pick the lot from there :T
Sunnyday, your corgettes are very early ( you lucky thing, I am very envious), think I will do some in the conservatory next year, seems to bring them on a lot quicker.
Last week I made up a batter and dipped long slices of corgette in and then fried them, they were delish, can't wait till mine start coming.
Hugs where needed, have good days all xx0
