Help needed with bricked Ipod touch after update

I am so hoping somebody can help me fix my ipod touch.
Today I tried to do an update to the latest firmware, which I have done before.
Paid my £5.99 and began the process. Got to the point where it says the ipod will now restart and show up again under devices.
Nothing happened. Ipod was completely black. After leaving it doing nothing for over 1/2 hour I tried the hold sleep and home button to restart it but got no responce.
When I plug it into pc I get a popup near clock on my computer say "USB device not recognised" telling me it has malfunctioned. I have checked under disk management and it's not showing up there either.
I have tried it on another computer and with another cable but still no go.
Apple support told me to take it to an agent of which there is none near me or send it to them which will take 3-4 weeks.
My ipod was working perfectly before this update and now I am kicking myself for doind it.
Any help would be most appreciated.
Please beware anybody who wants to update their ipod.

Have you tried this
http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1394
If iPod touch won't turn on, or if the display freezes or doesn't respond- iPod touch may need charging. See "Charging the Battery" in the iPod touch Features Guide.
- Press and hold the Home button for at least six seconds, until the application you were using quits.
- If that doesn't work, turn off iPod touch and turn it on again. Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button on top of iPod touch for a few seconds until a red slider appears, and then drag the slider. Then press and hold the Sleep/Wake button until the Apple logo appears.
- If that doesn't work, reset iPod touch. Press and hold both the Sleep/Wake button and the Home button for at least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
- Reset iPod touch settings. From the Home screen choose Settings > General > Reset > Reset All Settings. All your preferences are reset, but your data and media are left untouched.
- If that doesn't work, erase all content on iPod touch. From the Home screen choose Settings > General > Reset > "Erase All Content and Settings." All your preferences are reset, and all your data and media are removed from iPod touch.

Try turning your iPod off, holding down the home button (the one under the screen), and connecting it to your computer while still holding down the home button.
Keep the button held in until something happens.0 -
Thanks for your replies.
Ihave tried all of that and nothing.
Can't reset the ipod itself as it is completely dead.
I think it has had it.Its better to be late in this life than early in the next one.

Is this another fine example of an Apple product 'just working'
:rolleyes::rotfl:
kind or reminds me of my mates latest 'toy' from Apple, some 4k computer it's 'just working' like that too. It's working on getting the BSOD off the screen, it also has to go back to Apple for well obviously not repairs  as less we forget 'Apple products just work!':o
Sorry, I couldn't help myself:  on a more positive note as this forum is here to help afterall have you tried google: http://lmgtfy.com/?q=unbrick+ipod+touch
HTHIt could have been worse. At least source code's not combustible, or you can bet somebody at McAfee would have lit it.0 -

So when you hold the home button down while plugging it in, nothing happens when you keep it held down?Is this another fine example of an Apple product 'just working'

Well for starters, Macs don't get the BSOD. Secondly, Apple don't repair new computers, they just exchange them. When I bought my last Mac, I called them because the fans were a bit loud, and they asked right off if I wanted to exchange it for another one. Thirdly, Apple have the highest customer satisfaction rating of any computer manufacturer, so I think they're doing OK.
Apple sell 2 million iPods a week. Of course some are going to have problems.0 -
Well for starters, Macs don't get the BSOD.
Better tell that to my mate, he won't believe you having one on his screen for the last week whilst Apple get their stuff sorted. BTW he called it a 'bsod' not me. To me it looks like a little sign with 'call apple we've got a fault' sign (aka: Kernal Panic), but it's effectively a bsod which is something that Apple don't have - apparently! Or so some would argue at least
That's possibly because Apple don't actually make their own computers. So can't guarantee the workmanship, as with most of their products. So the quickest way to guarantee less problems is to take the unit back, then ship it back to someone who knows how to repair the fault. Then give the customer a new\refurbished unit.Secondly, Apple don't repair new computers, they just exchange them.
You're not capable of cleaning\swapping a fan over? ... where's my shocked smiley... :eek:When I bought my last Mac, I called them because the fans were a bit loud, and they asked right off if I wanted to exchange it for another one.
So they should, they cost peanuts to make which leaves lots for replacement parts or whole units whatever meets their needs.Thirdly, Apple have the highest customer satisfaction rating of any computer manufacturer, so I think they're doing OK.
You're in the minority, even Apple think their products 'just work' like magic! I know, I've seen their adverts on youtubeApple sell 2 million iPods a week. Of course some are going to have problems.
:cool::rotfl:
Anyway, sorry if any of this caused any offence. I couldn't help myself earlier, I think I was on a bit of a sugar high... I've come down now. Feet firmly back on the ground. Seems the OP thanked you so maybe they're sorted, lets hope so.It could have been worse. At least source code's not combustible, or you can bet somebody at McAfee would have lit it.0 -
Marty is right.
Make sure the iPod is turned completely off and hold the home button and at the same time connect your iPod to your computer. Wait a few seconds and it should connect saying iTunes has detected an iPod in recovery mode and follow the process through to restore.
I used to work for tech support and this is the only way to fix it!0 -
Thanks for replies.
I was asked to try that when I called apple support
with no response from the iPod.
Sad how much I seem to rely on my iPod.
As my iPod was only a few months old and I
had the receipt I called the shop I got it from
and they offered to replace it for me. God bless them.
So now I am happily tapping this reply from my new,
functioning iPod touch.
Thanks for all the great advice I will keep for future referance
and pray I won't need it.
