I would like to back up my entire 'my pictures' folder. I want to burn the photos onto CD. There are too many photos to fit onto one CD.
I would like to be able to simply put a CD in the drive, burn the photos to it and when that CD is full be prompted to enter another and then continue from the previous point. Is there a piece of software that can do this? My current CD burning software (RecordNow) cannot do a back-up onto multiple discs.
Thanks
SB

advice: use a dvd not a cd if you have a dvd burner that is, but remember you do need a copy, another choice is a small external hard drive0

advice: one type of backup is not the answer. Also backup to a USB external hard disk. These are so cheap now and much more convenient that burning to CD/DVD. However, you should still consider backup up to DVD maybe every few weeks then keep them in a different part of the house or at someone else's house. If the worst happens and the room the PC in gets burned down then your valuable data is still safe.

Hi, Thanks for your replies.
I keep my back up discs at my parents house just in case of a major catastrophe at my house!
I do not have a DVD burner so could do with some advice based around CD format please....0 -
shop bot, the cost of a dvd burner and the info you could get on a dvd in comparison to a cd is multi times do a google search for exact figures, but as i said earlier external hard drive. Another one is snap fish you can upload as many as you want and hold them in albums on their sever and its unlimited0

I store everything on external USB2 drives now (I buy in pairs and use one as a backup of the other). An external DVD burner should be no more than about £50-60 and similar for a lower capacity external hard drive (although you should be able to get a 250Gb for about £100.
Have you tried zipping them up? or splitting them into sub-directories that are about 650Mb in size each? If all else fails there are several backup utilities that will span multiple CDs - I am not familiar with windows own but does it not span multiple CDs (I use Dantz (the full copy that came with one of my external drives) but there was a version included recently on one of the cover magazine disks).
IvanI don't care about your first world problems; I have enough of my own!0 -
Highlight a load of files and drag them into the "burn these files" part of your burning software. If they add up to more size than your recordable media, remove the last few (continue until they'll all fit), if there is space left, add more. When that lot has burned successfully, continue from the next file in the list. It's a little laborious but it works and is very scalable.
Once you've done them all, new files can be backed up by listing the files in date modified order and repeating the above.0
