The 220v bit is fine, but my advice is dump them all if they have an electrical problem before they catch fire and buy some new ones at the computer fair.
If you want really cheap they usually sell for well under £5 but try for a brand name if possible.
I wouldn't recommend USB powered ones, very poor quality sound usually, but of course you can always ask to listen to some, usually the sellers at the fairs are very friendly.
One last point, look all around first before you buy it's surprising how much prices differ for the same thing.

    Good bargain hunting.
I love my spell checker, it stops me making all sorts of stupid smelling mistakes.

I don't care if they only cost £1 but if they only last a couple of days then they are a total and utter waste of money. Spend a bit more on a decent set of speakers such as Logitech X230 speakers (where about £24 but seem to have recently shot up in price). I have also found Kinyo speakers to be quite good .. albeit cheapies.

Always get a pair of speakers that lasts ages rather than those which only lasts few days, it's well worth it.

And always look around for bargains, when I upgraded to 5.1 system I found that the one I wanted was some £60 at Argos, whereas the exact same model was £20 cheaper at Amazon including delivery.

Im glad that you're happy with your new speakers so far though :)

thank you all for your replys and yes i woukld have got a nice 5.1 set but my pc is in a cupboard under the stairs due 2 the fact i have a 1 year old toddling around who likes 2 puch buttons and pull wires lol, if i put a 5.1 sysytem in here there would b nowhere 4 me 2 sit.
