Update: TV remote control - Problem solved!

Hi Guys,

The TV's great and is working fine - it's a Panasonic wide screen (one of those deep backed, heavy older ones, with built in digital & Freeview) bought from Empire Direct about 3 years ago! Unfortunately it came with no manual, so I don't have any info. I've got arthritis and it's a pain having to try and change channels by bending down to press the (concealed) tiny up and down buttons (it takes ages having to go all the way through, including radio etc).

I bought a replacement universal remote control from poundland, but it needs to be configured using a Panasonic 3 digit code (the booklet that came with it offers 12 possibilities, but non of them work) and as it's written in Anglo-Chinese, I can't make sense of the alternative suggestions!

The model number is: TX28DT2/E and the old remote has EUR511230 stamped on the back.

Any help would be much appreciated! ;)

You can buy a suitable replacement remote control from Amazon.

Thanks Taffybiker, Great answer (I didn't know they still made them)!

I was hoping that someone might know a where I could get a code for the new remote that I bought (after I'd spent a quid on it! :rotfl:) but I suppose I'll just have to pay another £15 (plus p&p)!

At least I'll be able to use the TV properly again shortly, with only a few more days of having to put up with watching one channel all night! ;)

    Cheers!

If you have bought a programmable remote and just need the codes the email Panasonic and they will send them to you. If you want an original remote cheap then look on Ebay
  • You can get a 15 in one remote from Lidl or Aldi for £4.99.

I have one of these and it works everything great!

    superjaggybunnet, Thanks.

I was in Aldi today and never noticed any - but I wasn't looking for one!

Will it work straight away with my TV or does it need a Panasonic code programmed into it?

scotsbob, cheers for the great suggestions!

    Hi,

found these, more than 12, so try the extra ones,

    Panasonic 0051 678, 254, 278, 154, 242, 368, 191, 302, 128, 544, 241, 065, 395, 379, 389, 103, 576

do you have Sky, you could try, Interactive > 5 > 5 > Select,

and lastly, there is some way to get the remote to do an automatic scan to 'find' the telly, but I cant remember what buttons to press, have a look at the leaflet that came with your remote.

Edit: just had a look at Scrounger's link to codes, and I see it tells you how to power scan, so you could try that, oh, and there's even more codes.

Universal remote controls are a great invention, but I personally prefer either the original handset or a compatible one (as from Amazon).
Very often the universal type has buttons that are never needed, or sometimes don't operate certain features of the equipment it is intended to control.
(Or someone else in the household doesn't pinch it to use on their own equipment).

Of course, that's just my opinion. The choice is yours.

Scrounger - thanks for your help - and the codes!

roves1 - Cheers! Nothing happened to the original remote - one day it was fine, the next it wouldn't work! I changed the batteries, but it made no difference! I'll check for corrosion, thanks! What would you recommend to un-corrode them?

Hi frugalmacdugal - thanks for the codes. I don't have Sky, only Freeview. I'll check Scroungers post on how to do a powerscan (the leaflet that came with the replacement remote, isn't exactly comprehensible - it seems to have been written by someone who's first language isn't English)! ;)

Taffybiker - thanks! The reason I bought a universal remote control from Poundland is because I did a search here and people suggested it! I thought it would solve the problem. I didn't realise that it'd need programming to work!

Cheers guys! I'll try the various options suggested and post again to let you know how I get on!

In true money saving fashion, I decided to have a go at fixing the remote control! This is what I did (in case it might help anyone)! I removed two small screws from the outer casing and two more from under the battery compartment. Then I prised the two halves of the casing apart. It was really tough, but after a few minutes struggle - and having retrieved the innards from across the room, I examined the contents!

The area of the circuit board that had been used the most (finger pressing) was oily (yuck) along with the underneath of the associated buttons, so I dabbed it all clean gently with a tissue and sprayed the circuit board lightly with switch cleaner. Once it was dry, I put it all back together - and it works a treat! In fact it's even better than before and I can flick through the channels and TV guide much quicker! :D

Thanks for all your help guys! I really appreciate your kindness and generosity!
Does anyone want a Poundland remote control, going cheap? :rotfl:
