Jobcentre making up jobs

I went to the jobcenter earlier and found 4 jobs i was interested in, great i thought, i might be able to get out of this depressing period of unemployment.
I phoned up all four and two of them havent placed adverts for jobs.
Do people at the jobcentre make up jobs to make it seem like theres more out there, or to meet the claim of theres x amount of jobs avaliable.

giving peopld false hope, its so wrong.

Doesn't sound good at all !

Were these agency vacancies or were the adverts direct for a firm?

    Not from an agency.
both were for fairly local restaurants.

Not to be pedantic, but that's not possible. Employers either call in to JCP with an advertisement or they can now put the details on themselves through the internet. Either way, it can be traced back who put the vacancy on with the job centre.

You need to contact the vacancy team in your local office and get them to chase it up with the employer.

It's more likely the employer did advertise the vacancy then didn't tell the jobcentre it was full (either that or the job currently belongs to the person you spoke to and the bosses haven't told them they are being sacked)

I doubt the jcp would make the job up, I say that on the basis of that they can't be a$%£ed to do anything apart from chat to each other so I can't see them being bothered make up jobs

This does sometimes actually happen, and is sometimes why some employers ask for application forms or cv's instead of phone calls.

On the subject of agencies, I've heard they often advertise a job to get you to go along and register (so earning commission), but then say the 'job' they advertised has gone. I'm not saying that's true of all agencies, but it seems to happen with some.

So an agency pays itself commission for someone registering ?

I don't know much at all about the workings of agencies, so don't take anything I say as gospel, I've just understood that sometimes staff get bonuses for people registering with them. If that never happens, I'm happy to say I'm wrong. It's just something I was told once.
