Jobcentre making up jobs

  • This does sometimes actually happen, and is sometimes why some employers ask for application forms or cv's instead of phone calls.

On the subject of agencies, I've heard they often advertise a job to get you to go along and register (so earning commission), but then say the 'job' they advertised has gone. I'm not saying that's true of all agencies, but it seems to happen with some.

Commission is only earned when a candidate is placed. Obviously the wider your candidate pool the greater your chance of placing someone...

JCP certainly doesn't "make up jobs".

I don't know about made up jobs, but I've noticed sometimes that the advert directs you to the company's recruitment website where the job in question is disappointingly absent.

The agency jobs on there are a complete waste of time. Even some of the jobcentre advisors will admit to this. There's no way of filtering these out of the searches either. I wouldn't be surprised if these are "made up".

It also seems like they don't take jobs down that have expired or been filled, and usually no closing date is specified, which to me is an essential part of a job advert. And it seems to make little difference which of the time scales you select at the search.

I have a good education and credentials, yet I never managed a single interview (and very few replies!) through the jobcentreplus site. I won't be using it again.

this does annoy me, the job centre need to be more active in removing jobs that are full

I think they would if they knew it was filled.
My mate was applying for NHS jobs seen in JC and when she rang them they said the posts were filled 3 months ago and admitted they had not informed agencies, including the JC that they were filled. So she told the JC who removed them.

Same goes for jobs in some newspapers. Employers pay to run the advert in say 4 editions of the paper over 2 weeks. Local to me that would be a Thur & Sat of each week. It's filled after it's first appearance, but as it's paid for it still runs in the paper for 3 more editions leaving lots of people dissapointed who phone up to enquire.

Maybe the employer should have the decency to phone the jobcentre and say it's full instead of having the chase them around. Happened a lot when I worked on the jobsearch department. I'd phone to arrange interviews and lo and behold they'd filled the vacancy weeks ago.

With agencies they know that some jobs don't exist. We raised it ages ago and asked if they could refuse to list them but it's against the law being a public service and all which is crap but I can see the point. It's not right for us to say which agencies can't list (As there are some good ones out there).

Sort of on the same line my son rather to his horror has found himself completely unable to find work after uni. He finally gave in and phoned to register for JSA this week and had a phone interview after which they transferred him to the department that found people work, he was asked whether he wanted a job (I assume a trick question?) and he said yes could they get him one and they asked would he do telesales..he immediately said yes and when could he have an interview and they put him on hold for about 20 seconds (maybe even less) and came back and said there was no telesales work after all. However they could offer him factory work..again he said yes could he go today and the same thing happened except this time they didn't even bother putting him on hold they just said that actually there were no factory jobs.

He asked them outright whether they had any work he could try for , and they said no. He has a face to face interview on Monday and plans to ask them again.

No one in the family has ever signed on before (and we hope that DS gets a job before he has to fully sign on) and we wondered if this was normal to pretend there was work when actually there wasn't? Was it just a trick question to see if he was genuinely wanting to work?

A lot of the jobs are placed online and end up getting advertised on the JCP in-house computer terminals.Lots of scammers place ads this way.

That is really annoying !!! Do you work with JCP?

I don't think the agencies should be able to put their adverts on JCP website. I have found alleged vacancies on the website that I know for a fact were filled weeks ago, yet the adverts have only just appeared - all of these with agencies by the way !

Never a trick question apart from the work one really. We do get people wanting to claim JSA but not looking for work for whatever reason :rolleyes:

I reckon they found a job on the system, called and it had been filled and the company hadn't called back to take the job down.

The JCP should moderate job ads instead of letting people just log onto their website and post just anything they wish.Last week betterware placed about 120 vacancies on there listing them more or less street by street instead of areas around derby. These are business opportunities not jobs as such and should be banned. Then we have the bogus charity clothing collectors who advertise on there every week not forgetting the scammer CV companies as well who try to get money off people up front by promising them work.

These are all things that make me mad. Betterware is not a job as you say, it's a business, you are self employed!

I've been had several times by CV collectors, paid them money to have them find me a job and register with them. Didnt get a job off any of them, but I'm older & wiser now.

So called charity clothing collectors grrrr  this is worth a thread of it's own.
I get loads of these leaflets through my door. Often a few days after I've had one from a legit charity and yup the bogus one is collecting on the same day.
I always phone the real charity and let them know, they are always very grateful & say they have prosecuted some of these guys with help from people who ring and tell them this stuff. I watched the bogus guys in my street taking the bags for the British Heart Foundation!
