I have been renting a bungalow for nine months, this being my first Summer. The agent came round to do a keycheck and inventroy yesterday and said everything was fine and my deposit would be released. Today she emailed me to say that there were weeds in the small front garden and the landlord is disputing that they there when I moved in!! Presumably this is in order to withhold some of my deposit. Whilst in the bungalow and with the landlord's consent I redecorated the bathroom (the wallpaper was falling down and covered with mould), I repainted all the hall and pipework. I replaced the bathroom light pull as it was too high to reach. I repaired some tiling, Put up a bathroom mirror and left it. Thoroughly cleaned all the shelving and white goods plus the bungalow in general. I have been mailing the landlord's mail initially to the agent and then to his niece all at my own expense. I feel really upset. I put new plants in the tiny back garden and mowed the small side area of lawn. The front piece of garden is slightly difficult because I had no idea what was actually growing and there are lots of rose trees. However I removed stacks of bindweek and did my best.

If you've not moved out you've got chance to weed it a bit more. Only so it looks as it did when you moved in. You could also offer to take your new plants with you to ensure it's as was.0

Thankyou. I actually moved out last Saturday although my tenancy does not end until this Sunday. I am just so cross about this. I even lost two hours pay yesterday because the EA forgot our appointment and I waited in an empty bungalow and then had to arrange another meeting. She appears to have made the landlord think it is absolutely covered in weeds but is most certainly isn't. I have actually been weeding it.0

If I were you I'd write out a list of all the work I'd done and charge for it. See what comeback you get?I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the Old style MoneySaving boards.

This sounds like a really good idea. I even did all the viewings for the agent and one of the couples I showed round has actually decided to take on the tenancy.0
