However then told i needed update so added update and restarted laptop with ipod still plugged in as showing do not disconnect. now ipod has gone from itunes

restarted again to see if it came back but it did not and restart now happens very very slowly.

Ipod has been attached for about 3 hours but still says do not disconnect - what should i do

    You could try this -

    a) Shutdown Windows so that the laptop turns off completely.
    b) Wait 30 seconds, then unplug cable from base of iPod. The usual menu on the iPod screen should reappear.
    c) Reset iPod. (Flick the hold switch on the top to on, then off. Press the Menu on the clickwheel and the centre select button together and hold down until Ipod resets and Apple logo appears on screen
    d) Restart Windows. Start iTunes. Connect cable to base of Ipod. Keep fingers crossed ;)
  • ok - i am about to try that now - keep you fingers crossed

The Ipod always says 'Do not Disconnect' when connected - it doesn't mean it's doing anything and this display won't change while it's attached

It should really say "Do not disconnect without ejecting from Itunes first"

You get nothing from the Ipod screen when it's attached.

    Just eject it via Itunes
  • thank you thank you thank you

All is well in the world of ipod!!!! - thank you amcluesent - it worked as promised although i did keep my fingers crossed

SRA - thanks for that - will not panic so much with that message!

I am now going to sit with my ipod and play and learn

Go through the 20 tutorial videos over at Apple

They tell you just about everything

    There's also some for Itunes
