I got home with my new ipod 30gb. used CD and installed ipod. restarted laptop as asked and ipod was there and music was being downloaded onto ipod. However then told i needed update so added update and restarted laptop with ipod still plugged in as showing do not disconnect. now ipod has gone from itunes
restarted again to see if it came back but it did not and restart now happens very very slowly.
Ipod has been attached for about 3 hours but still says do not disconnect - what should i do

You could try this -
a) Shutdown Windows so that the laptop turns off completely.
b) Wait 30 seconds, then unplug cable from base of iPod. The usual menu on the iPod screen should reappear.
c) Reset iPod. (Flick the hold switch on the top to on, then off. Press the Menu on the clickwheel and the centre select button together and hold down until Ipod resets and Apple logo appears on screen
d) Restart Windows. Start iTunes. Connect cable to base of Ipod. Keep fingers crossed0 -
ok - i am about to try that now - keep you fingers crossed:dance:                 :dance:I am finally understanding what money can do for me!0

The Ipod always says 'Do not Disconnect' when connected - it doesn't mean it's doing anything and this display won't change while it's attached
It should really say "Do not disconnect without ejecting from Itunes first"
You get nothing from the Ipod screen when it's attached.
Just eject it via Itunes0 -
