Why BT has added a plan to my line rental?

I just have received my BT bill. I only pay for the line rental, and have done so for years now, but today I did notice that they have added £2.49 for Unlimited Weekend Plan, is it a subterfuge to make us pay more?
On the bill it says : This bill is for "[tick] Phone line" and under it "Unlimited Weekend Plan for (phone number)"
My phone calls are with another company, I don't need to pay for a plan I will not use.

There is no charge for the Unlimited weekend plan, it comes as part of the line rental. The £2.49 must be for something else.

BT have 3 calling plans, see HERE.
The one you have will be; - "Unlimited Evening & Weekend Plan. Only £11.25 a month landline rental with Direct Debit and paper-free billing", and includes all calls to 01/02/03/0845/0870 at weekends for up to 1 hour duration.

Don't know what the £2.49 is for, ( caller display etc?), as the Weekend plan carries no extra charge!

Yes your only paying for line rental see: http://www.productsandservices.bt.com/consumerProducts/displayCategory.do?categoryId=CON-HOME-PHN-R1

You get the free weekend call package if you use it or not.

The £2.49 is possibly for a call feature do you have caller display or similar by any chance?

If you don't even make inclusive calls at the weekend via BT, any BT feature (e.g. Caller Display, basic 1571 etc.) you use will be chargeable.

If you use either of those you could avoid the charge by making 2 chargeable or inclusive calls per month via BT (if the 1280 prefix still works with your CPS calls provider).

The only thing I use is 1471, to get the phone numbers of callers who tried to call and didn't leave a message. I have never used caller display.
The bill states that there was no phone usage.
I am paying online when I receive the bill, so ok, I pay £4.50 for the privilege, but does that mean I will pay £44.49 every quarters from now on? It's £5+ than the march bill
What's the 1280 prefix? I've never used it, as far as I am concerned, I pay BT for the line rental (as I don't have any choice) and I pay inTechnology for my calls, which often amounts to less than £3 per quarter.

The plan is not 'free' as such - you get it for no charge on condition you accept a minumum 12 month contract - otherwise it costs £2.95 per month.

So, basically, it's a money making scheme, you pay for it whether you like it or not. No choice. That's what I thought.
They are lucky I need the line to connect to the internet, otherwise I would consider other options.......
I cannot find anything on the bill about a 12 months contract though.

Er, no. That's the optional Unlimited Evening & Weekend Plan.

The Unlimited Weekend Plan is included in the line rental.

It's the prefix which overrides default CPS calls routing to send an individual call via BT.

    Carmine.

Your confusing the issue by mixing up the Unlimited Weekend Plan which is included in the line rental price, and the Unlimited Evening and Weekend Plan which is chargeable if you dont want a 12 month rolling contract.:D
