Insurance help needed

We want to know where we stand with our insurance if anyone can help us.
Our son broke his arm today and cannot now go skiing next weekend - he is insured with the school insurance and we have family annual travel insurance though not for skiing.
The thing is that we had booked a holiday for ourselves, covered by the annual insurance and now may not be able to go, as our son is only 14 and will need caring for. Will we be covered for our loss as a consequence of our child's accident?
We booked flight only and have our own place, and we are trying to find a suitable flight so he can join us which may solve part of the problem.
