JSA after college

Hi wonder if somebody can help me? My son did his last A level exam yesterday, he has now finished college. He has never worked, therefore never paid N.I.
He is 18 on August 5th.
He lives at home with his mam and dad (me).
I work full time (£25k per year) My wife works part time (£4,500 per year)
I have informed Child tax credit he has left education and we no longer receive this for him.
My question is, will he qualify for JSA after his 18th birthday?
Any help would be great. Thanks

You should get back in touch with tax credits as you can receive them (and child benefit) up to the 31 August. At that point he can claim JSa, which hopefully won't be necessary.0

Thanks for your help.
I was rather hoping he wouldn't be entitled to anything as his enthusiasm for hard work somewhat lacking.
Them giving him money to do nothing isn't going to help, any idea how many weeks/months he can claim for, please tell me he doesn't receive this indefinately?
Once again thanks0 -

He'll get means tested JSA of £50.95 indefinitely, although after 6 months he'll go on to New Deal which will involve a period of intense jobsearch followed by a work placement at normal JSA rates.
Whilst not in any way trying to interfere in your family life, it might be worth pointing out that his JSA is intended to cover his food and share of bills. If you let him keep all this as pocket money you'll be making a rod for your own back and giving him no incentive to find work.
Another possibility would be for him to do a one year (not HE) college course as you'll still get CB/CTC for him and he won't be able to claim JSA but still get EMA if he's eligible. Might be worth a thought.
Apologies for adding extra bits; I'm known for putting my two penn'orth in!0 -
No apologies required, all advice gratefully received.
I will be taking £25 per week board (I am not a soft touch but I couldn't take the lot, not even I could sleep at night if I did). However this will still leave him £15 a week more than he's been getting as EMA. And he's somehow survived on that for 2 years, with no, and I mean NO money from his mam or I.....How?!
Okay well thanks for the info, I guess I'll just give him a few weeks then start turning the screw, today is only day one.

My very lazy friend's parents made his life more miserable than if he had a job - make him get the shopping, do the washing/ ironing, clean the house, mowing lawn etc. i.e. do all the things you/ partner would normally do but since you're working and he isn't then it's only fair he does it. It made him get off his bum and get a job0
