But if you bring overclocking in to the equation, which when done properly, is an excellent way to increase your CPU's performance, then AMD can't hold a candle to intel sadly.

The latest dual and tricore processors, especially the Black Edition lines, can be acheive massive overclocks and even at stock speeds they are performing better than their Intel counterparts at lower prices.

Heck, a correctly overclocked Phenom II X3 720's performance is right in the middle of the i7 range at half the cost. Most of those chips can be overclocked to at least 3.6GHZ quite easily. If you've got decent cooling then 3.8GHZ is realistic with 4GHZ for the brave.

Although overclocking isn't for everyone, nor is it something you should attempt on hardware that isn't aimed at that application.

Currys tend to have good offers on!

Hahaha, yeah, I heard PC World have too!

Plus they know loads about computers and don't rip you off in the slightest!

(Let's skip over the fact they are all the same company).

^ That is a very good price jaydee. Agree with Knub, PC World, Currys or any part of the shambolic Dixons Store Group are best avoided.

How 'bout an Acer Aspire Revo? You'll need to buy a monitor separately, but it does include a keyboard and mouse!

Agree, some of AMD's line up does OC quite well, but then again so does the Intel i7 range. For example, overclocking the i7 965 to 5.4ghz with the right kit!
