I've got a CD & DVD writer, and to make music CD's I use 'Instant CD + DVD'. Would this program be any good? When I back up what am I saving, is it just things that I have put there ie My documents, photos etc or is it more technical than that?0 -
Thats by pinnacle I think, yeah that should be ok to use try this..
Pop in a blank CD then if a XP dialogue box pops up just close it.
Then open the My Documents folder, and then click on one file or folder
that is diplayed on the right hand side (these are all your own files that you have put on your PC you may recognise a few)
Now with one file or folder highlighted click on, edit select all, then edit copy to folder
and select the CD drive that has the blank disk in, and then just follow the instructions onscreen.
Once done pop the disk back in and then open a folder to view files if prompted
just to make sure the files are actually on the disk.0 -
Yes it is by pinnacle...
That sounds relatively easy, I think that even I could manage that! Will have a go tomorrow as looks like doing all those steps in the other thread could take a while.
Thanks to everybody who posted, it's like having a premium rate helpline only it's free and the suggestions actually work. I was having trouble connecting to the internet once so I called the extortionate helpline. I got through to Delhi where after about 25 minutes at £1.50 a minute 'David' told me that it was because I had Avast installed!! He said that he had never heard of it and that I should remove it and then everything would be fine. I told my brother and he said that 'David' was talking out of his a@*e!!0 -

I've just seen this after being away for a couple of days.
PCHelpmans advice is good if you are infected with this malware. His assumption that just by seeing the popup you are infected, is wrong. I have seen this popup myself on a few different machines recently. I can say with no uncertainty that none of the machines were infected (it was the sites that had the problem).
I've dealt with a computor that has been infected with this malware. You would not have to ask questions about whether you are infected if you really do have this on your system.
The advice for removal of this malware is good if you have it. There is absolutely no need to assume that you have been infected just because you have seen the Winfixer popup.
The OP has good enough basic security in place to be able to stop getting infected in the first place. If his computor is acting strangely, then I think that the removale advice would hold good in this case. How many surrealists does it take to change a lightbulb?

Whilst this may hold true with Winfixer to a certain extent I would in my
own experience run the information supplied by PCHelpman/Browntoa because there are many many variants and I always would lean towards thinking the
worst, as
Its good practice to know your PC and find out how to remove nasties
under your own steam and try not to rely on PC shops fo minor woes.
All in all I think it very prudent to do what PCHelpman has laid out in good faith or ignore that advice because it may seem easier to do so because other
MSE members have said it may not be a 100% infected PC.0
