My dear old Mum has just bought her first car at the age of 64,a Corsa B,1.2,98 on a T,and it needs an oil change as it looks like the previous private owner hasn't done one for a while.

Anyone know any good deals on at the moment in Gateshead/Newcastle?
That's my mutt in the picture above.

  • To be honest, best if someone you know who knows even a little bit about cars can do it.

You can pick up the oil and filter at any decent motor parts shop (avoid Halfords, they are expensive) and it's not a big job at all.

With many garages now offering to change an oil & filter for less money than you can buy the stuff yourself (oil in bulk is a lot cheaper), it's been many years since I've bothered to change the oil myself, usually getting dirty oil in places you wished you hadn't and then having to dipose of the stuff somehow afterwards (although if you're close to a recycling depot dispsoal may not be too big a hassle)

Just make sure wherever you go, they actually drain the oil rather than sucking it out.

Kwik-fit / National tyres should be about £20.

    Oil filter - £5
    Oil - £12-15

Is it worth getting your hands dirty for £5 or less.?

    Edit...

Though, they will tell you that you need...

    4x New tyres
    new exhaust
    wiper blades
    shock absorbers

    etc...

Ignore and thank them as you walk away smiling..
