It is the supermarkets way of maximising profits you see...ALWAYS CHECK RECEIPT BEFORE LEAVING STORE.............ALWAYS....I cannott keep count of the number of deals that dont go through..........

its not done on purpose you know, speaking from experience i do know mistakes do happen in regards to the pricing,

I was ripped off in tescos by paying £20 for 2 box's of larger instead of 2 for £16. They admitted the advert was touching the brand I bought but said the brand had been put in the wrong place. I had paid the correct price so stuff it. They agreed the advert was wrong and called some one to change the stock that was on display. I told them they were trading illegally but the manager said "its nothing to do with me". They offered me a refund but I actually wanted the product. Surely I was entitled to pay the price as advertised.

but the store dont have to sell anything at the price on the shelf

That's right. Technically they invite the customer to make an offer to buy.

    Technically, technically, technically...

Look you know-it-alls should know that you shouldn't expect to be overcharged at the supermarket.

I love overcharges, but I have not had any lately! And I always check my receipt carefully.
Same! I always work out how much it *should* cost in my head - if it doesn't tally I joyfully go back to the shelf, take a quick pic of the SEL on my phone (just incase it gets changed while I get a refund - which has happened to me before...) and then head to the CS desk.
Nothing I say represents any past, present or future employer.

But I think you are missing the point.

Us 'know-it-alls' sometimes LIKE to be overcharged in Tesco (and we DO 'expect it' every so often, as they keep leaving up wrong/old/misleading SELs, or they scan something twice).

That's what the Tesco misprices thread is all about, finding overcharges and collecting Double the Difference from CS afterwards. It's not as good as the old defunct Tesco refund & retain policy - when people were given free xboxes after being overcharged by a tenner - but sometimes it can be well worth being overcharged!

A BOGOF not working is good news for a clued-up customer as it means free food - but only if you quietly pay up at the till then 'notice it afterwards on your receipt'. :D
PRIVATE 'PCN'? DON'T PAY BUT DON'T IGNORE IT (except N.Ireland).

No, but they are committing a criminal offence every time they make a misleading pricing indication (Consumer Protection Act 1987).

Tesco are making £7.8 million a week (£0.4 billion a year) on the defecit between expired prices/offers displayed on the shelf and the actual prices they charge at the tills. There's a whole website devoted to it - https://www.tescoripoff.com

I've been twice overcharged for items in Tesco.

I'd bought 2 for £5 chicken breasts for a BBQ and was charged £6.99 for each pack (I'd bought 10 packs), then £16.95 twice for toothbrush heads.

On both occasions I'd checked my receipt before leaving and received a refund at the CS desk, but on neither occasion did they offer the double the difference.

There was an A0 poster at CS in the first store, and a tiny notice on the till at the second one. Once they had finished processing the refund, I asked them why they hadn't offered me this - the first 'tutted' and said "Oh, what for all of it?" and the second pleaded ignorance.

I did get DTD back but come on Tesco - if you're going to make these pledges adhere to them and at least make sure your CS teams are informed of them

Wouldn't intent have to be proved?
