returned standing orders! please help

my daughter attends a sporting club which has monthly membership by standing order, this months money was paid to her instructor except for some unknown reason this time his bank returned it to mine!

i budget my money to cover my bills but every now and then i see that what i dont spend has built up a bit, thinking yesterday i had some extra i brought my kids some dvds, now it appears it was the money from the standing order, which had originally been paid to the instructor.

surely he can reclaim this as it the error on part of his bank, he basically telling me that unless i pay it myself then my daughter is not welcome as i wont be me that covers the fee!!

can he get this refunded by his bank??

i replied to this and it isnt here! weird.
my take on it is that the instructor should not follow it up with his bank because it is you he relies on for the payment. if it was the other way round would you go chasing the bank for the money? the bottom line is you (unwittingly) spent the money. will the instructor be kind enough to accept a double payment the next time? 1 via the regular standing order and 1 in cash?

my point is that maybe he can get it refunded by his bank (i dont know) but if he doesnt want bother then why should he? his point about you not having paid is moot if he was able and willing to get the money from his bank but as he is not then you'll just have to pay him i guess.
  • i left it in two places because i didnt know where to put it sorry, you probably replied on other thread.

and the payment was made by me, it was returned from his bank!

this is the part that is troubling me because the payment went out to him, it was his bank who for whatever reason returned it.

i spent the money before i was made aware of the situation and it was me who alerted the instructor to it.

ask your bank for a copy of the standing order instruction then ask the instructor to confirm that his account details are correct on them because it sounds to me that the bank details were wrong which is why the bank returned the funds to your account
I have not worked for NatWest Bank since February 2009
