yes he is fine. I hope you can see why I was reluctant to tell you! For my own peace of mind I would be asking them to check it out,

My boy was just like that. Feeding him used to take hours. As a new mother I used to fret a lot but most of it was really unnecessary. Dutifully I took him to the health visitor every week and he picked up weight at the normal rate. So something worked. Just persevere and rest assured you won't be stuck forever in this stage because it keeps on changing! :-) Good luck and have fun!

My DD was really slow as a new born, but they do grow out of it fast enough.
Its hard but it won't last that long.

You poor thing you have my sympathy. My son used to take ages to feed and used to feed every couple of hours it really is exhausting. To make it worse he hasn't changed. He is now 5 and takes ages to eat!

I used to tickle his feet to keep him awake I guess some kids are just slow feeders.

    Good luck x

Babies with downs get an ECHO (not sure if it stands for anything or is just called and echo scan) but it's a heart scan and it was fine so no probs there!

I'm sorry to hear about your relatives wee one though, must of been hell for his parents going through that.

My dd was a slow feeder too, not sure how much she was geting for the first 4 months as i was breastfeeding, but she seemed forever on them! tickling the feet did work if she dozed off (most feeds).
When she went onto formula it would take a while to get the feed inside her and she would only take 3-4oz's, It ws also a struggle to get food inside her, she ate like a bird! But the main thing was, she was happy and healthy, just had a small appetite.
Maybe you could leave a bit longer between feeds? If he's hungry then maybe he will drink that bit faster, worth a try :)
:hello: Hiya, I'm single mom, avid moneysaver and freecycler, sometimes  but definatly :D

    Hi there

It doesn't always have to be a worrying sign. My DD was exactly the same - couldn't keep awake and took only small amounts - she was breastfed and then bottle-fed - neighter mind the slightest difference to her feeding habits though! She was alert and fine, never seeming esp. hungry when awake, but slipped slowly through the weight centiles, having dstarted on the 95th (scaring me, as a first time mum, to death in the process!) She didn't settle on a centile (40th) until she was weaned at 4 months, and never really drank much milk after that either.

It was knackering feeding little and often, but she was fine, and is a good eater now. Sorry not to have any suggestions - only time worked for us!

    Hi,
My DD was exactly the same, I breast fed her and at times she would feed for 4hrs at a time, I then started to give her a bottle and she would have 2oz then fall asleep for a short while.
The same as the OP's I tickled her feet etc to try and keep her awake and tried to stretch out the time between feeds in the hope that she would feed better..
She is now nearly 10mths, has never slept through the night, but is a very healthy baby ( she is walking already). I know it's not much help at the moment but believe it or not your bady does eventually adjust to it..
Sorry I couldn't be of more help.

That was meant to say your body adjusts to it... goes to show that my brain is still working on it. lol..

i blow on my sons face very gently to wake him up if he falls asleep mid feed, i also pull the bottle very gently as he is sucking if he seems sleepy as this does tend to wake him up as he thinks you're going to take it away and he wont have that!
